Newtown Waste Solutions has purchased a 721F XT from CASE dealer Hodge Plant Sales Ltd for handling a variety of materials at its waste recycling plant in Motherwell, Lanarkshire.

Started in 2009 by Martin Clindon and Billy Neilson, the company has enjoyed considerable growth year-on-year (between 30 and 40 %), with investment in new and efficient technologies at the heart of its expansion. It operates from two sites where it processes a variety of materials, including soil and stones, aggregate, wood, plastic packing, biodegradable waste, bricks and waste plastic. The MRF (Material Recovery Facility) located at its head office site in Motherwell, helps it recycle over 90% of the waste it receives.

In recognition of its success in the waste recycling sector the company has recently won the award for ‘Environmental Haulier of the Year’, from the Scottish Hauliers Association.

Newtown Waste Solutions already runs two CASE machines, a SV300 skid steer loader and a C Series excavator. However, as it has expanded it needed another machine to share the increased workload at its head office location. After careful evaluation of all the available options it chose the CASE F Series 721F XT, which will handle the tough task of loading abrasive materials - broken bricks, stones and contaminated soils – as well as other waste materials, into its onsite Trommel (a revolving cylindrical ‘sieve’ that helps sort the waste), crusher hopper and the trucks it operates.

The F Series machines are ideally suited for this type of application. Fitted with Tier 4 Final engines, achieving emission requirements with the use of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, eliminates the need for a particulate filter or EGR valve. This unique design makes it maintenance-free and fuel-efficient. Safety is also enhanced, by eliminating the need for a Diesel Particulate Filter or extra cooling means the engine hood is more compact, resulting in superior rear visibility - an important safety consideration when working in this type of busy environment.

Martin Mclindon, director at Newtown Waste Solutions first saw the 721F at Intermat in 2015. “We liked the look of it compared to machines available from other leading manufactures in this class,” explains Martin. “So when we decided to purchase a new machine we approached Alistair at Hodge Plant as we know him well, plus we were already running other CASE machines. To be honest we were a little concerened as the site is quite tight it would be to big. However, it was suggested we take the machine on a demo for several weeks. This worked, being able to see how it performed in a live environment was a great advantage. We were extremely impressed with the way it handled and manoeuvred around the site, sight lines from the cab are very good and it’s very efficient – more than we expected.”
