Green Road: Fliegl continues sustainability campaign

"Ideas are our drive" - the organizers of the IAA could hardly have chosen a more suitable motto. Over the past 25 years it is has always been new ideas that have inspired Fliegl, and has shaped new utility vehicle development for a quarter of a century. "On our anniversary year at the IAA in 2016 we have the right to be a little bit proud, but we are looking forward to continued participation in the future development of freight transport", says CEO Helmut Fliegl. "Our focus is on and will remain clearly on sustainability. The trailers and semi-trailers, which we will be showing in Hanover in the autumn, are designed on economy, lightweight construction and maximizing payload capacity, with additional design emphasis on stability and longevity. Flexibility and reliability over the years – is how we define sustainability." A highlight of the nine vehicles are the Premium LED packages, a set of twenty LEDs illuminating the sides.

Fliegl Twin – on two axles into a profitable future

For curtain-sided semi-trailers Fliegl resolutely continues its two axis strategy: "Across the industry more and more operators recognize that the lion's share of transport goods can easily be carried out on two axles; a third axle often just costs money and loading capacity. Our twins are up and running and have shaken up the market – obviously they will now be in the centre of attention at the IAA”. A RoadRunner and a MegaRunner represent the Twin line at the commercial vehicle trade fair - in each case as a Twin 200 with 20,000 kg axle load. The outer frames are bevelled as standard and include the Fliegl Load-Lock-Profile for maximum flexibility when securing lashing straps. The bulkheads are fitted with the Fliegl Heavy Blocker, an approx. 140 mm high steel impact protection. The Heavy Blocker as a lateral impact protector at the rear showcases Fliegl as a first at the IAA with a new design fulfilling an external role. Both curtainsided semi-trailers have a safe parking function (in addition the RoadRunner has a ramp approach aid for soft docking) and the Quick Lock System, Fliegl’s mechanical central locking system for tarpaulins. The sides and roof tarpaulins are reinforced, in as much as they are equipped for load securing.

Fliegl coil recess: Greater flexibility and safety with new cover

For sustainable coil transport Flegl presents a three axle platform semi-trailer at the IAA 2016. The lightweight constructed SDS 390 Standard Greelight has a coil recess, coil supports, coil pockets and as an IAA premier – the new coil recess cover. The single cover was replaced by two half-width elements, in which, depending on the number and width of the loaded coils, small gaps can now be closed, which would have been be too large for the standard cover. In front of and behind the coils a level is created, which is as flush as possible to the steel rollers. Advantages: When securing and releasing the driver moves the load on a smooth surface – there is no risk of tripping or buckling on the exposed trough ends. Half cover – optimized safety at work. For load securing there are Load-Lock profiles with Vario lashing rings, 8 pairs of 5 tonne lashing lugs and 9 pairs of stanchion pockets. The axle spacing has been adapted so that the Greenlight coil trailer can be used in combined transport with a gross vehicle weight of 44 tonnes. The trailer for the trade fair is equipped with (TIS) tyre inflation system. It operates automatically and effectively, permanently controlling the tyre pressure and filling it when required. Optimum tyre pressure saves fuel, increases the service life of tyres and avoids breakdown-related down times.

Fliegl GreenLine: Lightweight design and aerodynamic concept reduces fuel consumption

Leader in stability and safety, impressive payload capacity, can be unloaded with confidence – the GreenLine dumper trailers from Fliegl are wide and long-lasting. Their standard conical trough represents low life-cycle costs and environmentally conscious travel. The cone shape reduces air drag and rolling resistance, for which, among other things it has been awarded the European Transport Award for Sustainability. The tapered trough is part of an extensive aerodynamics package Fliegl has put together for its dumper trailers. This includes special air deflectors and the new curved membrane tail gate, designed incorporating the latest scientific research. It significantly reduce air turbulence in the rear of the vehicle. Further practical plus points of the GreenLine dumper trough are its low loading sill and the low centre of gravity. Lowding times are also short – proved by comparison tests. With the curved front frame Fliegl’s dumper fleet has a new face. The innovative optics catching the eye immediately. A chassis without sharp angles constructed in a lightweight design. This reduces the unladen weight of the trailer and increases payload capacity. At the same time stability is also improved, since the vertical forces are optimally combined and transferred to the coupling plate. On the underside of the curved chassis is a slightly upward curving steel guide, this simplifies coupling and prevents damage. The rounded shape also simplifies manoeuvring, because no angled corners means more room for the tractor unit.

The three-axle dumper DHKA 390 that Fliegl will present at the IAA 2016 weighs approx. 4400 kg. The aluminium box trough of the GreenLine dumper is made of abrasion-resistant material. With a volume of 25 m³ the technical payload is approx. 34,523 kg. GreenLine is the strategy that Fliegl will resolutely follow in the future for all chassis and trailer production. GreenLine is living sustainability.

First GreenLine low loader trailer: A payload giant with special steel construction

Fliegl Trailer has been following the philosophy of consistent, intelligent lightweight construction of commercial vehicles for 25 years. The Greenlight series of trailers and semi-trailers, which are designed to be especially durable, now has an addition – the low-loader trailer DTS 300 Greenlight. "By using high-strength special steel and with chassis modifications, we have maximized the payload", says CEO Helmut Fliegl. "The new green light is a rugged low loader trailer with a load capacity of 24.5 tonnes."

The three-axle low loader for the IAA offers numerous load securing options:

  • 1 pair of 5 tonne capacity lashing lugs on the offset

  • 8 pairs of 10 tonne capacity lashing studs (2 pairs on the offset, 5 pairs in the drop centre, 1 pair in the rear bevelling)

  • 7 pairs of 5 tonne capacity lashing holes in the outer frame for securing lashing straps (1 pair on the offset, 5 pair in the drop centre, 1 pair in the rear bevel)

The trailer can be made 3000 mm wider with extensions and wooden planks. There is a storage compartment for the planks in the middle of the loading area.

IAA Premier: V-Stream trailer – more payload, sensible details

Fliegl Trailer has put its swap body trailer (ZWP) on a completely new basis: The longitudinal members of its aerodynamically inspired chassis are not parallel, but get closer at one end. The advantage of the new V-Stream frame construction is a significant increase in payload capacity: The new Fliegl ZWP is good half a tonne lighter than its predecessor, the unladen weight being about 2 tonnes.

With a tandem and a turntable draw-bar trailer the swap body portfolio is represented at the IAA 2016. Each of the four container locks with stable booms are safe on 20-foot bases with swap bodies in all standard sizes.

The robust, well conceived container all-rounder: Fliegls V2+

The three-axle Vario Chassis SDS 380 Vario V2+, fulfils all the requirements container logistics needs. A roller bearing mounted front extension, retractable under-ride guard at the rear and the Fliegl axle relieving Tele Control configuration, or simple telescopic trailer extension for the transport of all lengths and volumes of containers:

  • Retracted rear extension booms: For 1 x 20 foot or 1 x 30 foot, flush with rear

  • Tele Control (stage 1), extended rear extension booms (stage 1): For 2 x 20 foot or 1 x 40 foot (with or without gooseneck tunnel)

  • Tele Control (stage 2), extended rear extension booms (stage 2): For 1 x 45 foot (with gooseneck tunnel)

  • Tele Control (stage 2), extended front extension booms (stage 1), extended rear extension booms (stage 2): For 1 x 45 foot with long gooseneck tunnel and chamfered corners

The V2 Chassis weighs only approx. 5191 kg, its technical payload is approximately 32,809 kg.

Strong push for mass movement

The pushing floor trailer SDS 390/92 can transport up to approx. 31,798 kg bulk materials in its abrasion-resistant aluminium trough, the hollow floor has an arrangement of lashing lugs. The end and side walls are of hollow aluminium profiles and are welded on the upper edge with a special reinforcement profile and fixed below by a special frame. The pushing floor of the IAA exhibition vehicle, including wear plate on the rear consists of 6 mm aluminium corrugated floor boards. A synchronously sliding wall with reinforced durable strips on the underside helps ensure complete emptying. The hollow profile aluminium end wall is divided in half and works as double leaf door, both halves are surrounded with a special U-profile with limit stops and are fitted with a rubber seal.
