JLG Industries, Inc., an Oshkosh Corporation company and a leading globalmanufacturer of aerial work platforms and telescopic material handlers, has updated its Toucan 8E and 10E mast boom lifts with improvements that reduce the machines’ total cost of ownership. In addition, the company has added lightweight 8E and 10E models to the Toucan lineup. These updated models will be available globally in June 2016.
“As we looked for ways to reduce the total cost of ownership for these machines, we made several improvements to the existing models, including replacing the wet cell battery with an AGM battery,” said Corey Raymo, JLG Industries global category director, boom lifts. “Compared to a wet battery that needs to be topped off periodically with water, the now-standard AGM battery is virtually maintenance-free.
“We also replaced bronze pads on the mast with a pad made from a composite material so the mast on Toucan 8E and 10E standard and lightweight models is grease-free, eliminating another step in the maintenance regimen.”
Additionally, for the EMEA region, JLG increased the tilt angle on the updated Toucan 8E and 10E machines from 2 to 2.5 degrees. This improvement gives operators more freedom as to where they can operate the machines with respect to job site surface slopes.
The improved machines also weigh less—20 kilograms less for the standard 8E two-person outdoor rating and 230 kilograms less for the 8E light option with its one-person outdoor rating; and 60 kilograms less for the standard 10E two-person outdoor rating and 400 kilograms less for the 10E light option with its new one-person outdoor rating..
The new one-person outdoor rating for the 8E and 10E light options provides another choice for customers. “Customers no longer have to purchase a capability they don’t need,” said Raymo. “If they don’t plan to use the Toucan outside or if their outdoor application only requires one person to complete a task, then this new, light option would be their best choice.”
Raymo adds that the indoor rating for both the standard and light models remains at two people. Like other models in the Toucan lineup, the 8E and 10E feature AC drive motors for energy-efficient performance and industry-leading duty cycles. A versatile articulating jib provides horizontal outreach and up-and-over height of 5.10 meters and 6.51 meters for the 8E and 10E models, respectively.
JLG is displaying the 12E Plus at booth F.904/5 at Bauma. The versatile 12E Plus features an articulating jib offering 7.12 meters of up-and-over height.
