Terex Port Solutions delivers Model 7 crane to Porto di Carrara

Terex Port Solutions (TPS) continues to gain ground in the Italian market. Porto di Carrara S.p.A. (Marina di Carrara) purchased a diesel-electric Terex® Gottwald Model 7 mobile harbour crane in the G HMK 7608 variant which was delivered in June 2015. This new crane is operating as part of an overall fleet of 11 Terex Gottwald mobile harbour cranes in Carrara.

Productive handling of marble and other heavy products

The mobile harbour crane with a maximum lifting capacity of 150 t, maximum radius of 54 m and lifting speeds of up to 100 m/min will handle heavy and project cargo. According to Dr. Paolo Dello Iacono, Managing Director at Porto di Carrara: “Our port is a leader in importing and exporting stone, steel products and project cargo. The new crane helps us to extend our capacity in these segments.” The G HMK 7608 crane is scheduled to unload granite from India and Brazil and load outbound Carrara marble. Dello Iacono explains: “Currently we are linked to 85 ports on five continents. In order to face the challenge of gradually rising handling volumes, we continue to rely on productive and reliable mobile harbour crane technology from TPS.”

A new crane virtually every year for Porto di Carrara

“The new machine is another milestone in our business relations with Carrara,” says Gino Gherri, Regional Director Sales & Services at TPS. Gherri continues: “Porto di Carrara has relied on technology from TPS for 30 years. Since 1985, this customer has purchased a new crane virtually every year. He has now opted for Generation 5 cranes a second time, a sign of the effective, long-lasting partnership between our teams.” The new machine combines productivity with competitive cost of ownership. “We are proud that we have again gained the interest of a leading terminal operator in such an important market”, concludes Gherri.
