ConExpo Debut: First Trade Show Appearance for the Demag® AC 45 City in North America

The most compact crane in its class

With this year’s exhibition at ConExpo, Demag will be showcasing its AC 45 City for the first time ever at a trade show in North America. This crane is sure to be showered with attention, as it completely raises the bar in terms of dimensions in the 50-ton capacity class: With a total length of 28.48 feet, a width of 8.37 feet, and an overall height of 10.66 feet, the Demag AC 45 City has the most compact dimensions in its class. This makes it hard to beat when space is at a premium, as is the case indoors. Since the base section of the fully hydraulic, 102.36-ft main boom is particularly compact with its length of 25.59 feet, the AC 45 City crane is also able to work in buildings with a low clearance while still keeping its main boom at a steep angle and lifting heavy loads. It is also important to point out that telescoping a load of up to 21.72 tons is possible, representing an increase of over 100% in comparison to the crane’s predecessor, the AC 40 City.

145-ft System Length

In addition, the crane can be flexibly adapted to an extremely wide variety of requirements – for example, with a 4.27-ft runner for lifting capacities of up to 27.56 tons or a three-sheave hook block, which allows for seven-part reeving. And with offsettable main boom extensions of 23.29 or 42.65 feet, the system length can be increased to up to 145 feet.

With IC-1 Plus

The IC-1 Plus control system, which comes as standard, calculates the crane’s lifting capacity for every position of the boom as a function of the superstructure’s slewing angle. This means that the lifting capacity for a specific radius is no longer limited to the lowest value for a pre-calculated 360° lifting capacity, as used to be the case. Instead, the crane can always take full advantage of the maximum available lifting capacity. This advantage is particularly useful when it comes to lifts in which the outriggers are extended in an asymmetrical configuration.

“Flex Base” Continuously Variable Outrigger System

Together with the IC-1 Plus control system, the new Demag crane is additionally able to work with any outrigger configuration with continuously variable adjustments, making it possible to take full advantage of all the lifting capacity available.

Optionally Available with E-Pack

Upon request, the AC 45 City is available with an electro-hydraulic E-Pack that makes quiet, zero-emission crane operation possible thanks to an integrated 32-kW electric motor. Potential applications include indoor projects, projects in dense urban areas, and projects at night in residential areas in which running the crane with the 260-kW diesel engine (EU Stage V / Tier 4f) is not possible. When traveling, the crane can transport this E-Pack at the back so that it will not be necessary to transport the unit to the work site separately. Once at the site, the E-Pack can be automatically let down from the crane and connected to a power supply.
