PERFORM®: easy-to-process special structural steels for commercial vehicles

The special structural steels from ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe previously marketed under the brand name PAS® are now called PERFORM®. High strength and ready formability remain the main features of this range of steels. PERFORM® was specially developed for cold forming, so it is ideally suited for reducing weight in the construction of commercial vehicles and mobile cranes, where parts are exposed to high stresses as a result of their own weight, heavy loads and uneven road surfaces. Used in vehicle frames, axle structures, longitudinal and cross beams, and special profiles, PERFORM® steels lower the overall vehicle weight without sacrificing payload capacity.

The cleanness and fine-grain microstructure of PERFORM® give the material a high level of toughness which is essential for cold forming. Thanks to its low carbon and micro-alloying element levels, the steel can be readily welded with minimal susceptibility to cold cracking. In addition, plates of these grades can be cut to length with very close thickness and width tolerances and are suitable for press-braking and bending. The growing network of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s Heavy Plate business unit ensures the materials can be supplied just-in-time around the world.
