STEIGER ® TBR 220: The innovative new model with great market potential

RUTHMANN is about to introduce a brand new model in the 3.5 t truck-mounted aerial work platform category. The TBR STEIGER ® 220 is a completely new development. This innovative new STEIGER ® model features performance capabilities that, up until a few years ago, were only available in the 7.49 t truck category. RUTHMANN now offers customers an aerial work platform with a 22 m working height that can be mounted on a wide variety of different trucks.

The TBR 220 has a 22 m working height and 16.4 m lateral reach. With its outstanding performance features, RUTHMANN will once again be offering the most powerful work platform with jib (on a 3.5 t chassis) available on the market today.

The new STEIGER ® TBR 220 features impressive performance capabilities and is extremely compact. It is the ideal work platform when working in cramped, inner- city conditions.

The low height of the work cage console allows operators to get extremely close to objects. Installation or repair work can be carried out in a safe and efficient manner.

For work platform rental companies, roofing companies, painters, tree cutters/pruners, and other target groups, the new STEIGER ® TBR 220 provides significant advantages. This new work platform on a 3.5 t chassis is compact and lightweight with performance features that are second to none. The TBR 220 has an overall length of just 6.92 meters and a narrow support mechanism with extremely short set-up time. The wheelbase of the base vehicle is just 2.9 m and the height is only 2.99 m.  The TBR 220 is the perfect replacement for all older machines in the 22 m category regardless of the make or model.

The TBR 220 is the new "range champion" in the 3.5 t truck-mounted aerial work platform category. On tree cutting - pruning assignments, for example, falling branches do not pose a hazard to the vehicle or outriggers because the vehicle can be positioned at a safe distance.

The state-of-the art technical features and steel fabrication methods are also the special highlights on the TBR 220. The multi-bevelled telescopic boom sections are made of cold-rolled, high strength steel for maximum stability and minimal material weight. A first in this category: The telescopic cylinder has been integrated internally in the boom system. This professional all-rounder scores additional points with its new “space frame design” tower. The tower is also multi-bevelled for maximum buckling strength. It is 20% lighter with 20% more torsional rigidity. RUTHMANN patented this technology for the heavier models in its HEIGHT performance-series.

With the TBR 220, RUTHMANN has once again demonstrated its steel fabrication know-how.  Maximum stability, top quality and durability are guaranteed.

With this innovative technology, RUTHMANN is also keeping an eye on the guidelines of the future. In 2014, truck manufacturers will be delivering the first 3.5 t chassis with EURO 6 emission standards. These new base vehicles will be considerably heavier than the current EURO 5 models. The new STEIGER ®TBR 220 is well equipped for this transition because its reduced weight offsets the extra weight of the EURO 6 base vehicles.  The total weight of the unit will therefore remain under 3.5 tons, as required by law.

The movable jib -RÜSSEL ®- has a swivelling range of 185° for maximum versatility at the job site. Objects can be reached with great precision and sensitivity. Assignments can even be carried out BEHIND objects. 

With a working height of 22 metres, the STEIGER ® TBR 220 can carry out assignments on larger buildings, trees, and other objects.

The movable jib (RÜSSEL ®), with its 185° swivelling range, has been extended to 2.2 metres – an increase of 38 cm. The enormous agility has tremendous benefits when working at and behind objects.

The TBR 220 also comes equipped with a new interchangeable work cage system. Operators can use the aluminium or synthetic work cage, depending on the assignment. Until now, this feature had only been available on 7.49 t aerial work platforms. This innovative STEIGER ® model is perfect for rental companies who can now rent the same work platform to tree cutters and to electricians thanks to the double-insulated 1000V synthetic cage.

The TBR 220 features an interchangeable work cage system which allows operators to choose between the standard aluminium cage and the optional, double-insulated 1000V synthetic cage when working on power lines. This makes the TBR 220 the vehicle of choice for municipalities and electric power companies.

The work cage has a generous 230 kg load capacity. That is almost as much as the load capacity of previous models in the 7.49 t category. The work cage comes with a 2 X 85° cage rotation device. The cage is slip-resistant thanks to the new type of aluminum installed on the cage floor and steps.

As with other RUTHMANN models, there is a wide variety of base vehicles from which to choose from. The TBR 220 can either be mounted onto a Sprinter, Crafter, Cabstar, or Maxity chassis. It can even be mounted onto chassis with greater loading capacity and 4-wheel drive systems.

Because the new STEIGER ® TBR 220 can be driven with a B/3 driver’s licence, they can be rented to anyone with a legal driver’s licence. Even trainees/apprentices are able to drive the vehicle to the job site.

Regardless of which type of chassis the new TBR 220 is mounted onto, it stands out from the rest because of the solid, multi-bevelled, telescoping boom system.
 

The STEIGER ® TBR 220 can be positioned on sloped surfaces of up to 5°. Maximum stability is guaranteed even when working in difficult areas where space is very limited.

The RUTHMANN STEIGER ® TBR 220 has so many amazing state-of-the-art features and performance capabilities that it will soon be replacing many older models in the 7.49 t category.
