Weldex, the largest crawler crane hire company in the UK, has taken delivery of the first of two Terex® Superlift 3800 lattice boom crawler cranes. The first of this Terex model to arrive in the UK, it will be followed by a second scheduled for delivery to Weldex in November 2015.

In the 650 t capacity class, with a load moment of 8484 metretonnes, the new cranes replace two existing 600 t CC 2800-1 crawler cranes first purchased in 2008.

Weldex Managing Director, Dougie McGilvray, comments: “These latest acquisitions are part of an ongoing investment plan designed to ensure that the Weldex fleet reflects the latest technology and most recent innovations. There is also a growing demand on many projects for cranes that are no more than seven years old.”

Headquartered in Inverness with a depot in Alfreton, Derbyshire, the company was founded in 1979 by the McGilvray family and now operates across the UK and internationally.

“The Superlift 3800 was our preferred option for a number of reasons,” continues McGilvray. “It was not simply the extra capacity over our existing 2800-1’s, which had given excellent service since 2008, but its lower transport weight and ability to erect longer boom systems unassisted.”

“I am delighted that our long standing relationship with Terex is set to continue with the arrival of these new high performance cranes.”
