With MasterSeal® 6100 FX BASF offers a high-performance lightweight waterproofing slurry

  • Contributes to LEED® credits and proves high performance in successful references throughout Europe

  • Advanced technology combining powerful binding systems with powdery polymers

Two years after having been launched in the European markets, MasterSeal 6100 FX has become a reality used in several European countries and in the most complex and demanding waterproofing projects. MasterSeal 6100 FX is a highly flexible and elastic one-component membrane, with low consumption and rapid-curing. Its main advantages derive from its highly advanced technology that combines the most powerful binding systems with the addition of powdery polymers. The product is part of the Master Builders Solutions product range under which BASF bundles its advanced chemical solutions for new construction, maintenance, repair and renovation of structures.

Because of its lightweight formulation with higher yield, MasterSeal 6100 FX is a very efficient and economically advantageous product. Thus, a pack of 15 kilograms of MasterSeal 6100 FX is substituting a kit of comparable two-component products, which do usually also require roundabout 8 to 10 liters of liquid polymers to be mixed to a bag of 20 to 25 kilograms of powder product. The need on storage space as well as the amount of waste package material will be reduced (up to 50 per cent), and the costs for transportation will sink. Even with only 1,8 kilogrammes of MasterSeal 6100 FX powder per square meter and down to a temperature of -10ºC, after hardening, a continuous membrane is formed, capable to withstands positive water pressure resistance up to 5 bars and to bridge cracks up to two millimeters. Ease of application, rapid hardening and thus, reduced downtime, implies that, compared with other liquid waterproofing membranes, and depending on the size of the project, using MasterSeal 6100 FX a contractor could cut up to one complete working day.

Successful reference cases throughout Europe
With MasterSeal 6100 FX, BASF contributes to sustainability as one key factor in research and development of products and solutions. MasterSeal 6100 FX is designed and developed in alignment with LEED criteria (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, developed by the U.S. Green Building Council) and contributes to the following LEED credits: up to two points due to use of recycled content, up to two points for the use of regional material and up to one point for low-emitting material. In addition, MasterSeal 6100 FX does not emit ammonia and can easily be applied in closed environments.

The use and advantages of MasterSeal 6100 FX allows solving specific needs both for owners and applicators – this has been proved in various successful reference cases throughout Europe: Internal and external waterproofing for the bridge channels for water transportation, Tresenda and Vago, where the main requests in Livigno, Italy. With MasterSeal 6100 FX water penetration into the structure reducing potential damages due to corrosion could be prevented. Low temperature maintained elasticity which was additionally required in this high altitude application and the reduced maintenance costs were the key factors in the choice of the product for this challenging project.

The surface waterproofing of a side walkway of a bridge exposed only to light and eventual pedestrian traffic is another reference in Leuven, Belgium. Main need in this case was the possibility of using a material with high abrasion resistance and stable colour and appearance exposed to UV and weathering. Additionally, speed of application with the possibility to spray all membrane in one layer and most especially the possibility to apply the product on new concrete and on wet substrates and conditions were the key decision criteria for the selection of MasterSeal 6100 FX.

In Montejo near Salamanca in Spain, the applicator was looking for surface waterproofing of buried concrete reservoirs that will contain treated water, before it is used again in the industry process and cleaning activities. The key advantages in this case that decided the use of MasterSeal 6100 FX were the ease of application and its reduced consumption as well as its elasticity that will ensure to cover the potential cracks that can appear in the substrate.

Surface waterproofing on sprayed concrete applied on a segment of the Cordee Montblanc Tunnel in Italy. The key advantages that decided in favour of MasterSeal 6100 FX in this case were the strong reduction in material necessary to be transported to a remote area, and specially the reduction of wastage in packaging. Additionally the availability of a real white version and the ease of application of material on humid substrates were considered as important advantages of MasterSeal 6100 FX.
