Cutting-edge specialist foundation engineering technology for the Asian market: BAUER Maschinen Group with numerous innovations at Bauma China

Bauma China is now not just a platform for product presentations, but also a major meeting point for industry players from the Chinese market and far beyond. The BAUER Maschinen Group again showcased numerous exhibits and newly developed products for specialist foundation engineering at the renowned construction equipment trade fair held at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

On the very first day of the fair, Bauer unveiled a system developed especially for the Asian market to industry experts and media representatives: the CSM 35. The concept for the then-novel Cutter Soil Mixing (CSM) method was devised by Bauer more than a decade ago. Drawing upon the firm's experience in manufacturing trench cutters, in 2003 Bauer engineers developed an equipment and methodological concept in which the ground is loosened and mixed by cutter wheels rotating around horizontal axes. Now some 70 Bauer CSM units are in use worldwide, generating a wealth of experience which has flowed into further development of the system. For the first time, the latest CSM 35 system has now been attached to a base carrier BS 80 BB produced by Bauer in China. The CSM 35 drive has torque of 100 kNm, and in combination with the flipper tooth developed by Bauer, it can be used even in difficult soils. With a 35-meter mixing depth, the device is dimensioned for standard foundation engineering requirements. Its robust, torsion-resistant rectangular kelly bar with locking recesses means that it can undertake precision work to the highest levels of accuracy.

In the field of grab technology Bauer also surprised visitors to the trade fair with the first public unveiling of the hydraulic BAUER GB 50 grab unit. As an enhancement of the well-known GB 46, the new GB 50 features numerous improvements, such as the increase in motor power from 224 to 261 kW, and in pulling force from 46 to 50 tonnes. The BT 70 base carrier not only meets the very latest requirements in the health, safety and environmental protection fields, it actually sets real standards: a key innovation is the pull-out service platforms. They allow for safe and ergonomic maintenance in a freely accessible working area. A part of the lateral paneling acts as a hand rail during maintenance. The service platforms are stored as extendable, walk-on drawers on the underside of the support in order to save space. When the platform is extended, the working area underneath the upper carriage is released so that the component units can be easily reached from the ground.

The patented free-fall system incorporated into the hoists enables the grabs to be used effectively in difficult soils. It is the first unit of its class to provide the option of a CAT tier 4 diesel engine. Another associated development is the new DHG V grab unit, the prototype of which was unveiled at Bauma China two years ago. It is specifically designed for use in free-fall mode, and it can be used effectively despite its minimized weight. Thanks to its minimized weight, it can also be used in combination with smaller base carriers. With its GB 40, GB 50 and GB 60 series Bauer has a portfolio that can tackle any upcoming projects in the market.

Bauer exhibited its BG 30 at Bauma China as a representative of the ValueLine series which is specially designed for drilling with a kelly. The rotary drilling rig with the BT 80 support designed and built by Bauer is the first to adhere to the value for money principle from start to finish. It combines tremendous drilling performance at depths of up to 87 m and diameters of 2,500 mm with the usual level of comfort as well as outstanding cost-effectiveness.

The mid-range ValueLine series has seen two new additions this year – the BG 30 and BG 26 – and it benefits from years of preliminary work undertaken by the engineers at Bauer. The rigorous focus on customer benefits, function and efficiency has made it possible to set a new standard for the cost-effectiveness of drilling rigs. Both rigs are also equipped with an integrated service platform that allows for easy, convenient and secure access for all types of maintenance work on the uppercarrige. The BG 30 VL produces truly impressive torque – combined with low diesel consumption levels. Its optional single-layer piggyback winch enables the winch pulling force to be kept constant, even at great drilling depths, and cable wear to be dramatically reduced. Bauer engineers also managed to combine the rugged hydraulic ValueLine feed-forward control with a new assist system which makes the work of the operator much easier.

KLEMM Bohrtechnik GmbH is the specialist within the BAUER Maschinen Group for developing especially high-quality and powerful drilling rigs with a total weight of up to 32 t – the company is a pioneer in the market and has had a major influence on the development of anchor drilling systems over the last five decades. The displayed drilling rig KR 805-2 – produced in Tianjin since 2015 especially for the Chinese market – is powered by a Deutz diesel engine with 129 kW. The KR 805-2 shows high performance in the fields of anchoring, micro-pile and geothermal driling applications. Furthermore, drilling depths up to 250 m can be reached. Die high performance and reliability of the rig, especially the suitability for geothermal applications as well as the great drilling depths are very interesting for the Chinese market.

With a width of 2,3 m and a weight of approx. 14 t the Klemm rig is easy to transport by container or truck. The specially constructed motor housing allows easy access for maintenance and service tasks. The rig is equipped with an optimized kinematic mast-to-boom link which offers a large range of slewing and mast positioning possibilities. Load sensing technology in the hydraulic system enables an adaption to the various consumer variations as for instance: Hydraulic drifter, rotary head or double head drilling unit; crane, magazine or winch; flushing pumps etc. The rig can be equipped with drill masts either with cylinder or gear feed systems and the possibility of fitting lattice mast extensions. There are several upgrade possibilities including the use of rod magazines available. The KR 805-2 is also available as a radio-remote controlled version.

Bauer Maschinen has been active in China for a quarter of a century. In 1991 Bauer opened its first office in Beijing. This was followed by machinery plants in Shanghai and Tianjin. In 2016 Bauer decided to focus production at its plant in Tianjin, with service and maintenance work being carried out in Shanghai in order to provide machinery customers throughout China with even better service and shorter repair times. Bauer sales and service teams are based at various offices throughout the country, such as Guangzhou and Wuhan. More than 600 Bauer machines have been sold in China, where they are being used with great success.
