I talked with Tom McNeill, Managing Director of Finlay Scotland “The Finlay name has always been associated with high quality, and when John Finlay died in 1985, the main company was eventually sold to Terex to create the brand that we know today, Terex Finlay. Finlay Scotland continued to trade in its own right representing the Terex Finlay product range and is the longest established dealer in the global network.

The last ten years has seen its up’s and down’s but we are now in a growth period with the supply of new machines and 2014 was a great year for us selling over 25 machines, this year is also looking very healthy too. As well as the new machines, we have always maintained a young hire fleet of Terex Finlay machines allowing us to meet market demand and we currently have over 35 machines on this fleet. We also are specialists in refurbishment of Terex Finlay machines for our customers giving them a valuable alternative option.

Having established a great working relationship with Breedon Aggregates, we are now supplying them on a regular basis with new Terex Finlay machines and work with them to fulfil their requirements across Scotland.”

We also spoke with Iain Haldane, Managing Director South West for Breedon Aggregates “Breedon has been very successful in Scotland over the last few years, and a key factor in this has been maintaining a strong local presence allowing us to be close to our customers and markets. We are a nationwide but local company allowing us to offer a high level of service to our customers, and we feel that we are different to our competitors in this approach.

We currently operate 54 sites and quarries across Scotland, a mix of hard rock, limestone and sand & gravel. We have had a couple of big contracts recently in Scotland with the harbour construction at Cairnryan and a big Interconnector project which connects the wind farms across Scotland to supply energy. This has meant that the production has increased substantially within our operation and has led to a requirement for new machines.

The relationship with Finlay Scotland and the Terex Finlay brand has been a successful long standing one built on personal trust, service and quality. We have a significant number of Terex Finlay machines across our sites and have recently acquired seven new units for our South West operation, being initially placed at our Sorn Quarry. We also have a number of Terex Finlay machines on order and these too will eventually be placed in the South West of Scotland. All of these machines will then be put into the general business as part of a ‘Mobile Crushing Train’, allowing us to move them around easily and quickly to different parts of the Breedon business as required.
