System Integration in Material Handling

As system supplier for drives of the material handling technology, ABM offers complete, precisely matched and highly efficient drive systems for industrial trucks. At the LogiMAT in Stuttgart, the company – located in the Bavarian town Marktredwitz – presents among other things powerful ABM bevel gear units of the series TDB 254 for the system integration. The cost-saving encoder feedback is new in the program.

Bevel gear units of the series TDB 254 distinguish themselves through their high torque transmission capacity, very quiet running and long service life. The encoder feedback, newly developed by ABM, is a cost-effective alternative to concepts with potentiometers and is integrated into the intermediate flange. This prevents soiling as it can happen in hitherto existing solutions with encoders next to the driving wheel. For the user, ABM’s solution is easily accessible from the top in case it needs servicing. Moreover, it can be used flexibly with different sensors.

The series TDB 254 is highly efficient and is used in a large number of industrial trucks. Vehicle developers can now respond even better to customer-specific requirements and so have the choice either to use smaller, more cost-effective batteries for the same operating time or to design the vehicles for longer operating times until the next charging process. The complete gear design has been tailored to the mobile use and is especially robust. The unit works with high process reliability even in rough environmental conditions and at temperatures of down to minus 40°C. The quiet running of the drives increases the driving comfort. The efficient dynamics improves the productivity of the vehicles in practice. The bevel gear units TDB 254 are being used in different mobile machines. The range reaches from hand pallet trucks and commissioners, reach trucks and tractors to driverless transport systems (FTS). Outside the material handling technology, the ABM solution aims at applications like cleaning machines and working platforms.

ABM Greiffenberger also presents another system solution: the wheel hub drive of the series TDH 280. It is especially suited for the use in cleaning vehicles like sweepers and sweep-vacuum vehicles. The drive with a wheel diameter of 280 millimetres works reliably in transport systems that are being used in damp surroundings. ABM offers the wheel hub drive as a three-stage helical/planetary gear unit with integrated AC-motor, holding brake, speed- and thermosensor. The designing engineers attach great importance to serviceability: TDH 280 is completely maintenance-free. Its robust design masters even difficult tasks in rough production surroundings without any problems. The drive is supplied with a battery voltage of 36 Volt and does 1.2 kW. The ABM innovation has a compact design with small envelope circle. Its small height makes the installation easy. The concept of this wheel hub can easily be integrated in different types of vehicles and is especially suited for concepts with a low platform height through its small installation height.

For the use in 3-wheel counterbalanced trucks with a load of up to two tons, ABM presents the steering unit SDH. It works as a three-stage helical gearbox with mounted AC-motor. The battery voltage is 48 Volt, the output 0.9 kW. The component has been designed as a complete motor-gearbox-sensor-unit. This steering unit is also extremely service-friendly, maintenance work is not necessary. With the series SDH, the system supplier offers the users a cost-optimized steering concept. The gear unit has an efficiency of 94%. Through its compact design, the steering unit SDH can easily be mounted in lift trucks and it has proved its robust design many times in practice at high load demands.

20 years experience in material handling
For 20 years now, ABM Greiffenberger has been manufacturing AC-drives for material handling applications and can bank on comprehensive know-how as a system supplier for the industrial truck industry. More than 2 million drives have been integrated into the applications of the material handling area up until today. The drive specialist works closely together with the customer all the way from the development phase to the series production and offers the best possible solutions from a single source for the respective applications in the areas driving, lifting or steering. The system solutions of ABM excel with their high output at low energy consumption and little maintenance work. They guarantee long service life and process reliability, have a compact design and can be integrated into machines with very little development effort.

The use of the newest gearbox and motor technology is proof of the high environmental awareness of the company. Drive solutions of ABM – from the extensive construction kit system or customized – are convincing through their exemplary energy efficiency.
