Baler on Tour - The Fendt Square Baler Tour 2015

The Square Baler Tour 2015 started in Baden-Wurttemberg at the beginning of July. Paired with a Fendt 930 Vario, the Fendt square baler 1270 S is presented to interested customers directly in the field.

Up to now, 7 customers have already received demonstrations of the big balers in hay. “The machines worked perfectly everywhere,” says Felix Glas, factory representative for Fendt Harvesting. “The baler produces bales that are 120 cm x 70 cm and made an excellent impression on farmers. With the support of our colleagues from Parts and Motec, we equipped the machine with a bale scale, moisture measurement, applicator and bale marker as well as a reversing camera,” says Glas.

Bale scale: weighs each bale and saves the individual bale weight as well as the total weight for the job

Moisture measurement: Measures the moisture of the harvested crop through conductivity

Applicator: Doses the Baler’s Choice preservative (buffered propionic acid), dependent on the moisture of the bale, to prevent mould

Bale marker: Marks the bales depending on their moisture, permits moist bales to be identified

Reversing camera: Integrated in the Varioterminal for better visibility towards the rear

“We were able to use and try out all the systems for our last customer, because the hay was still very moist, despite the high temperatures in the lower part of the swath,” says Felix Glas. “We only discovered this because the moisture measurements showed values between 10 and 30 percent.” After speaking with the customer, some 100 hay bales were treated with Baler’s Choice preservative in the moist areas (15 percent moisture and up) and the corresponding areas were marked with red food grade colour.

“You could really smell the acid on the treated bales,” laughs Felix Glas. A cross-check with a measuring probe showed that the moisture in the bales was always over 15 percent in the marked areas. “That proves that the moisture measurement functions very accurately,” says Glas.
The demonstrations are highly professional and the farmers and contractors show keen interest.

Tour dates:

Depending on the weather, over the entire harvest – starting today, approximately 5 – 6 weeks.
