Cummins engines bring Technology That Transforms to operators, reflecting the theme of Cummins Stand E09 in Hall 25. The latest-generation engines provide the ability to transform machine performance, not just with ultra-clean operation, but also with faster cycle times for increased productivity and reduced fuel use for lower operating costs.

Cummins latest products deliver Technology That Transforms through the ability to design, manufacture and integrate all of the key enabling technologies as a single system. This technology includes the broadest portfolio of engines, turbocharging, filtration and exhaust aftertreatment systems available in the industry.

Achieving innovative, dependable technology is realised by leveraging Cummins unique degree of experience in emission technologies. More than 500,000 engines are in service to date already meeting near-zero emissions regulations across North America and Europe. That experience, coupled with engine field-testing carried out across a variety of material-handling machines, including forklifts, telehandlers, terminal tractors and cranes, has enabled proven technology to be introduced at the start of production.

By making an early start with near-zero engine development, Cummins has been able to undertake its largest-ever field-test and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) installation programme, extending to more than 70 machines over 140,000 total hours. Engines operated under the most demanding duty cycles and challenging conditions, including high to low engine load operation, extreme heat and cold.

“With a very wide range of machine types working at challenging on-site locations, Cummins application engineers were able to build up the most comprehensive mapping of equipment duty cycles, load factors and operating conditions we have ever created," said Jennifer Rumsey, Vice President, Engineering – Cummins Engine Business.

Cummins has ensured that its latest near-zero engines enter production as proven platforms, ready to provide the most dependable performance under the toughest conditions they might encounter. Near-zero engines over 129 kW (173 hp) are in production now, with production of the QSF3.8 and QSB4.5 on schedule for January 2015, aligning with the emissions effect date for engines from 56 kW to 129 kW (75 to173 hp). During 2014, production volume of the QSF2.8 will ramp up to meet the needs of applications below 56 kW (75 hp).
