Dubai parks and resorts takes delivery of middle east’s first three Genie® Z™-60/37DC ‘all-electric’ boom lifts

As what counts as one of the region’s most iconic construction projects of recent years, Dubai Parks and Resorts is set to be the largest integrated leisure destination that the Middle East has ever seen. Seeking a sufficiently powerful and environment-friendly solution adapted to Dubai Parks and Resorts’ challenging maintenance and high worksite health and safety requirements, earlier last year Al Masaood Trucks and Equipment, one of the resort’s key equipment providers, turned to Al Mahroos, Authorized Genie Distributors in Dubai, who recommended the new ‘all-electric’ Genie® Z™-60/37 DC articulating boom lift ̶ three units of which were delivered to Dubai Parks and Resorts last November.

“Our company prides itself in complying with the highest European worksite health and safety standards. With this in mind, we are always looking for new solutions that suit our needs in terms of productivity and the quality of worksite conditions. Thanks to its excellent range of motion, versatile, quiet, clean performance and four-wheel drive abilities, this new Genie model is an excellent and cost-effective alternative to separate diesel and electric powered units. For us, the Z-60/37DC boom definitely ticks all the right boxes,” says Mr. Nishad Abdulla, Assistant Fleet Manager, Dubai Parks and Resorts.

Sharing many similarities in terms of all terrain capabilities and components with the popular Genie

Z-62/40 boom lift, the new Genie Z-60/37 DC boom provides more performance in a compact unit than any other 20 m (66ft) electric powered boom on the market. Offering a platform height of 18 m (59 ft 7 in), a horizontal outreach of 11.15 m (36 ft 7 in) and an up-and-over clearance of 7.4 m (24 ft 3 in), the Genie Z-60/37 DC lift combines the 4WD performance of a traditional diesel powered machine with the benefits of quiet, environment-friendly all-electric operation offering full workday indoor and outdoor emissions-free performance on just one battery charge. Weighing 2268 kg (5,000 lb) less than the Genie Z-62/40 boom, the electric Genie Z-60/37 DC lift notably provides the ability to access many work environments that other models cannot.

Comprising three theme parks and a water park: Motiongate™ Dubai, a movie-inspired theme park showcasing some of Hollywood’s favorite characters from DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures Studios and Lionsgate; Bollywood Parks™ Dubai, the first theme park based on the sights and sounds of Bollywood, the resort’s third theme-based venue LEGOLAND® Dubai and LEGOLAND® Water Park caters to families with children aged from 2-12. Spreading across 325,160.64 sq m (3.5-million sq ft) – the equivalent of 420 football fields, the park first welcomed visitors with an opening day footprint of 232,257.6 sq m (2.5-million sq ft) in 2016.

Due to the multiple themes and nature of the site, maintenance duties at Dubai Parks and Resorts are extremely varied. “The Genie Z-60/37 DC boom has the versatility it takes to adapt to our broad spectrum of architectural styles," says Mr. Nishad Abdulla, Assistant Fleet Manager, Dubai Parks and Resorts. He continues: “Its narrow footprint, four-wheel drive capabilities and all-terrain, non-marking tyres are an excellent match for work outdoors on rough ground and indoors on fragile surfaces where space is often limited.”

Furthermore, besides providing a better environment to work in, “Since part of the resort is already open to the public, low noise levels and emissions-free operation are an absolute ‘must have’ that allow us to operate these machines all day long without disturbing our visitors. Other key features that we find particularly useful include the full height drive function, and the Genie FastMast™ system that enables the boom to be moved from full height to below grade and back with just one boom function. Last but not least, the unit’s dual parallel linkage design that enables operators to vertically track a building by simply raising or lowering the secondary boom is very pratical and a good time saver,” says Mr.Abdulla.
