In the coming months we will donate a second lighting tower and a generator,” says Marco Piroli, Business Line Manager for Atlas Copco Rental in Italy.

Emergency lighting tower
The volunteer corps is part of Civil Protection Department (CPD), an organization that unites citizens across all Italy to help people during a crisis. After the sinking of the Costa Concordia, the L’Aquila earthquake and the recent earthquake in Emilia Romagna, CPD engaged a lot of volunteers to help with fire protection, first medical care, providing shelter and food,… The CPD corps in Cinisello Balsamo will use the lighting tower in case of such an emergency.

Next donation: lighting tower and generator
Marco Piroli explains: “The idea of donating this lighting tower came from one of our employees who volunteers for the CPD and pointed out their need for good lighting tower equipment. I was so happy to see that the CPD in Cinisello Balsamo were so grateful after receiving the tower, that I have decided to donate another one as well as a small generator.”

Emergency lighting and electricity for 12 hours
The lighting tower is fitted with a 12 kVA power generator and a ten meter manually extendible tower, which can be rotated 360 degrees. The six 1500 W lights are capable of providing emergency lighting and electricity for about 12 hours.

Atlas Copco Rental Italy involved in other local salvage operations
The company also offered equipment during the earthquakes in L’Aquila and Emilia Romagna. For the salvage of the Costa Concordia, Atlas Copco Rental compressors were used to supply air inside the cushions to make the shipwreck float and turn, so the Concordia could be moved again.
