Girls’ Day 2015 at DEUTZ AG

  • Schoolgirls visit DEUTZ AG to find out about engineering careers

  • Premiere of the M+E information truck

  • DEUTZ sets its sights on females recruits

On Thursday 23 April 2015, DEUTZ AG once again invited schoolgirls to its Cologne-Porz site to spark their interest in engineering careers. The nationwide Girls’ Day initiative gives young women across Germany the opportunity to find out about technical occupations on visits to companies.

The girls, accompanied by trainers and trainees, were given an insight into engineering vocations and attended a presentation where they learnt all about DEUTZ AG and its range of products. On a tour of the historical engine collection at the DEUTZ Technology Centre, the schoolgirls then discovered the fascinating story of the combustion engine.

A particular highlight this year was the new information truck organised by the metalworking and electrical engineering (M+E) employers’ associations, which made its debut at Girls’ Day in Cologne. The truck used the latest multimedia technology and hands-on experiments to show the young girls what goes on at typical M+E workplaces, giving them an insight into technical subjects as well as practical experience of the engineering world.

Dr Margarete Haase, member of the DEUTZ Board of Management with responsibility for Finance, Human Resources and Public and Investor Relations, also has her sights set on female recruits. “Getting girls and young women into our industry is a matter that’s close to my heart, as they are still very much under-represented. The metalworking and electrical engineering sectors have so much to offer and I want to show the schoolgirls, how varied and exciting a technical occupation can be for women.”
