Since its launch two years ago, the hybrid Genie® Z®-60/37 FE boom lift is revolutionizing the access market to become a star on jobsites in Europe.

And it’s perfectly logical, since everyone stands to gain at all levels. For rental companies, this model’s excellent productivity, high rates of utilization and low cost of ownership are a real boost for returns of invested capital. For operators, all terrain performance, low cost of operation and indoor and outdoor capabilities offer a real competitive edge. For contractors, this hybrid Genie boom notably guarantees the low emissions and low noise levels required to adapt to the environmental demands of urban jobsites.

Working at a height of 18 m (59 ft) in the centre of Paris is not possible with just any type of machine. One of the key reasons being that these days contractors demand machines that combine low or zero emissions with quiet operation. And when it comes to working within a tight schedule in the narrow streets of the historic 5th district of Paris, operators also depend on a reliable, all terrain machine that is sufficiently powerful and compact to enable them to work efficiently, even at night.

Aiming to adapt to these challenges and not being familiar with the hybrid Genie boom lift, a site manager working on the construction of a new apartment project in Paris turned to French rental company Acces Industrie for an economical, environment-friendly, all terrain solution to assist in a facade-cleaning application. Considering the challenges, Acces Industrie immediately recommended the Genie Z-60/37 FE boom lift, underlining the reasons why it would be well suited to the job.

Firstly, due to its specifications, the Genie Z-60/37 FE boom lift combines the benefits of a 20 m (65 ft 7 in) articulating boom offering an up-and-over clearance of up to 7.40 m (24 ft 3 in) and a horizontal reach of up to 11.15 m (36 ft 7in) with quiet, low or emissions-free operation.

Secondly, despite the fact that electric-powered machines may be sufficiently quiet to be used at night on jobs where time is restricted, operators often face difficulties with recharging batteries when there is no electric power source on-site.

Furthermore, a true hybrid machine recharges its own batteries automatically via its diesel engine to provide more than a week’s operation on a single tank of fuel.

Finally, thanks to its all terrain capabilities, the Genie Z-60/37 FE hybrid boom lift also offers operators the advantages of overcoming the inclines and pavements that come with accessing buildings in urban environments.

In busy urban areas, respecting the environment is a key factor. With this in mind, other than this particular one-and-a-half month facade-cleaning task, the end-user customer also stressed the fact that an increasing number of the jobsites that his company deals with involve strict environmental constraints. Consequently, they are required to respond to contractors’ needs with solutions that offer reduced emissions and low noise levels. And this is precisely where the Genie Z-60/37 FE boom plays its role to the full.

Mr. Rizqui Kariouch, Branch Manager, Ile de France region, Acces Industrie says: "Our customer was so satisfied with the Genie Z-60/37 FE boom lift that he extended the rental by 15 days to assist in maintenance tasks. He was also delighted that the machine enabled him to comply with the contractor’s environmental constraints while remaining easy for operators to work with. And with the increase in the price of fuel in mind, this hybrid model only utilizes 30 L (6.5 gal) of diesel on average a week compared to 100 L (22 gal) for its diesel-powered equivalent. This goes to show that by explaining the advantages of hybrid technology and promoting this machine, we can help the market to evolve, as well as contributing to making the world cleaner.”
