Intralox to unveil new technologies at Logimat 2014

This patented technology is capable of both receiving products from any direction and then sorting them in any direction at high rates within a compact footprint.

Intralox developed the sorter for zone picking (or “pick and pass”) applications where items must be sorted to manual picking areas and then merged back onto the same conveyor.  Another key application of the product is single-level infeed/outfeed to Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) at rates above 1,800 cases or toes per hour.  “The OMNI-DIRECTIONAL Sorter is a cost-effective solution for low-density applications,” Intralox Research and Development Manager Matt Fourney said.

This technology can also provide value in other applications because it can sort backwards; selectively rotate; products, re-orient or align items; and position packages in rows and columns all on one machine. While these functions can currently be performed using multiple existing technologies, the Intralox sorter performs all functions on one machine.

The OMNI-DIRECTIONAL Sorter handles various types of packages, cases, and other conveyable objects.

Also on display is the Intralox DARBTM Sorter S4550, part of the Intralox Activated Roller BeltTM (ARBTM) line of equipment.  The DARB S4550 delivers the high rates and compact footprint as its predecessor, DARB S4500, but delivers these benefits bi-directionally.

The bi-directional Dual-Activated Roller Belt (DARB) Sorter S4550 enables right-angle sorting at rates up to 250 packages per minute, with higher rates possible depending on package size.  Other benefits include tight divert spacing.

Like the OMNI-DIRECTIONAL Sorter, this product can both receive and sort packages on the same machine.  “The DARB Sorter S4550 is an interesting solution for single-level infeed/outfeed to Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (AS/RS) and for 90 degree bi-directional sorting applications where tight divert spacing and overall compact footprint is desirable,” said Mark Constanzo, Intralox Packaging and Material Handling Manager.

Intralox’s DARB sorters bring value to right-angle sorting applications above 30 packages per minute.

“Both the OMNI-DIRECTIONAL Sorter and the DARB Sorter 4550 highlight Intralox’s continual efforts to provide our customers with products that offer new functionality,” said Rebekah Lemm,  Global Business Unit Manager for the Intralox Logistics and Material Handling Team.
