IPAF brings ‘back to basics’ safety stations to Conexpo 2017

The theme of IPAF’s Lift Safety Zone at Conexpo 2017 is going “back to basics” in search of greater safety and best practice across the industry. IPAF will be demonstrating the importance of getting the basics right when using MEWPs, whether you’re a supervisor or operator. IPAF will also be highlighting the key new requirements in ANSI and Canadian standards to assist visitors to the stand in what they need to do in preparation to meet the new standards.

Tony Groat, IPAF’s North American Manager, ANSI A92.22 Safe-use Chairman and member of the two other committees that helped develop the new suite of standards, will also be on hand to give his own unique insights into what the effects and impacts will be on the wider access industry and offer advice on how manufacturers, rental companies and operators can become compliant. Tony will also be speaking as part of the comprehensive CONEXPO-CON/AGG Education Program.

At IPAF’s Lift Safety Zone visitors will be able to walk through a series of safety stations based around different risk scenarios, including:

  • Unsafe ground;

  • Overhead obstructions (avoiding entrapment);

  • Avoiding electrocution;

  • Preventing unauthorised access;

  • Risk assessment of the whole area – on-site traffic and general site awareness;

  • Pre-use inspection.

IPAF has also developed a virtual reality (VR) demo app which takes the user though a MEWP pre-use inspection, and will demo this VR simulation at Conexpo on IPAF’s Lift Safety Zone which will also be available to download from Google Play and Apple App Store.

As ever, IPAF staff will be on hand to answer questions about the operator eLearning module and the AWPs for Managers training course, and to provide a full range of technical guidance, videos, stickers, posters and educational tools.
