Beginning in March 2013 Jungheinrich will initiate a project which is going to significantly expand its used equipment centre in Dresden. Dubbed “2018”, the project involves a gradual expansion of plant capacity to enable the reconditioning of 8,000 vehicles per year without impacting current operations. Currently 4,500 vehicles can be reconditioned at the used equipment centre in Dresden every year. In 2012 the plant worked close to the limits of its capacity.
The Dresden used equipment centre went into operation on June 1, 2006. Since then the centre’s production capacity has nearly trebled. The current available space of 19,000 square metres is five times larger than when the plant originally opened. “The new construction section commencing in March 2013 will connect the existing halls and allow for sustained optimisation of material flows,” explains Ronald Ohlrogge, Head of Rental and Used Equipment at Jungheinrich. This would increase the actual production area from its current 8,500 to a total of 13,500 square metres. “After that we will be in a position to professionally recondition some 8,000 vehicles a year,” reports Ohlrogge.
Jungheinrich JungSTARs in 4-star Quality
Premium quality is an integral part of the reconditioning process at the Dresden used equipment centre. The used stackers are industrially reconditioned in accordance with Jungheinrich’s 4-star quality standards, consisting of the elements of safety, engineering, appearance and reliability. According to Ohlrogge: “Our vehicles are restored to have a new-look appearance with state of the art safety reconditioning. This guarantees first-rate results as well as reliable protection from unexpected downtime. That is why we call our 4-star used stackers our ‘Jungheinrich JungSTARs’,” he continues.
Jungheinrich industrial trucks are reconditioned in Dresden according to the flexible production line principle, divided between used electric and IC engine stackers. The incoming used trucks are thoroughly inspected before being disassembled into individual components and assemblies. These are overhauled, with any components essential to safety being replaced. “Our used stackers are reassembled using Jungheinrich original spare parts,” declares Ronald Ohlrogge. Afterwards the trucks are painted in new car quality. “Even a specialist can barely distinguish between a reconditioned stacker and a brand new one.”
Construction of Used Equipment Centres in China and Brazil
The trucks to be reconditioned come from all over Europe. They are reconditioned centrally at the used equipment centre in Dresden and then sold throughout Europe by Jungheinrich direct sales. Currently Jungheinrich used equipment centres are being set up locally in the growth markets of China and Brazil. “These are all modelled on the successful principle of our used equipment centre in Dresden,” concludes Ohlrogge.
