LEMKEN to take over GTS

LEMKEN will take over the business operations of GTS, Gerd Terheiden Schweißtechnik GmbH, through a holding company with effect from 1 May 2015. GTS, which has been operating in the Alpen industrial area since 2005, produces welded assemblies and employs 55 staff, all of whom will continue to be employed.

Gerd Terheiden, the former head of LEMKEN’s welding department, established GTS as part of a management buyout and successfully grew the business. Unfortunately, Terheiden, who recently turned 61, was unable to find a suitable successor to take over from him, and LEMKEN, the main buyer of GTS products, was able to step in.

LEMKEN, a family-operated agricultural machinery specialist, has focused on manufacturing individual parts and welding large chassis since part of the welding operations was outsourced. The company has therefore made substantial investments in sophisticated processing centres and large welding robot systems in the past 10 years. The acquisition of GTS not only ensures that 55 jobs are saved, but LEMKEN will also benefit from the employees’ expertise and gain more flexibility in planning manufacturing within its group of companies. The new company will operate under the name of LST, LEMKEN Schweißtechnik GmbH & Co. KG.
