N-A-XTRA® and XABO® steels make cranes lighter, stronger and more flexible

Special structural steels from ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe help skyscrapers set new record heights. Take the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, for example: During its construction, stable structures made of N-A-XTRA® and XABO® steels helped transport concrete reliably up to a height of 828 meters. The low weight, high strength and great flexibility of the special structural steels make them the material of choice for construction projects of this kind.

N-A-XTRA® and XABO® from ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s Heavy Plate business unit guarantee long service lives for highly stressed steel structures. Using special structural steels from ThyssenKrupp, parts for trucks, mobile cranes, pipelines and the mining industry can be made significantly lighter while delivering the same performance. These heavy plates can withstand enormous pressure loads even under extreme temperatures and at dizzying heights. Plate thicknesses of 3 to 100 millimeters allow tailored solutions for every requirement. With very close thickness tolerances of ± 0.2 millimeters and high toughness levels, the materials are ideal for processing methods such as cold forming and welding.

The broad spectrum of N-A-XTRA® (550 to 800) and XABO® (890 to 1100) can be used in bucket excavators, pressure pipelines and container cranes. The highest strength is offered by XABO® 1100. Offering enormous load-bearing capacity yet readily processable, this steel is used for example in telescopic booms for mobile cranes. The high-strength material withstands dynamic loads and allows heavy loads to be maneuvered with pinpoint accuracy. The first applications have also been found for XABO® 1300, which stands for a new generation of high-strength steels at Steel Europe.
