According to Cyrille Morisseau, manager of Somatra, his team conducted an extensive search for a 5-axle, 220-tonne capacity crane before deciding on the Demag AC-220-5 unit. “What impressed us the most about the Demag all terrain crane, was all of the operator-friendly innovations, this unit’s power, and versatility. The onboard IC-1 Plus control system is something we thought was a unique feature that would make operators much more efficient. It determines the crane’s lifting capacities in real-time, which means the operator is always aware of the crane’s load limits — no matter the slewing angle of the superstructure. It will help us reduce the amount of counterweight we need to carry from job-to-job and allows us to use this unit on more heavy lifting projects.”

With its ability to remain under an axle load limit of 12 tonnes (13.2 USt) even with a payload of up to 600 kg (1,322 lbs), Somatra’s Demag AC-220-5 all-terrain crane is easy to transport and helps keep associated expenses low. Its compact design makes job site positioning quick and efficient, which allows the crane to be used in a broader range of lifting applications.

The team at Somatra are pleased with the Demag AC 220-5 all-terrain crane’s performance and are looking forward to operating it for many years to come.
