The forums of BAU 2013: BAU plus! Experts from all over the world discuss questions related to architecture and urban planning of the future

Experts from all over the world who are concerned with current questions of architecture and city development, will be addressing these subjects and answering questions on them at BAU 2013—right in the middle of the fair, in the forums in Halls C2, A6 and B0. Famous architects like Patrick Schumacher, Stefan Behnisch or Werner Sobek will represent their point of views and report from their practical work. With this unique opportunity, BAU is presenting real added value from which every BAU visitor can benefit. BAU plus!

Forum C2

In the "Future of Building" Forum C2, which BAU 2013 is realizing in cooperation with Bauwelt and DBZ Deutsche Bauzeitschrift, leading planners, architects and construction engineers from all around the world will be explaining, using project examples, how design and building will look in the future.

Each day this forum will look at different themes that will be having a significant impact on the future of building.

Infrastructure and the urban environment: Mobility, climate change and dwindling energy reserves – all these are prompting the search for new solutions for our urban areas. What does the city of the future look like? And what differences will there be around the globe?

360° planning: Our buildings are becoming ever more complex. How do our planning processes have to change to accommodate these pressures? How will projects be planned in an integrated way in future?

Parametric design: Twenty years after the introduction of CAD, is the computer changing design in architecture? Will digital design and parametric construction influence or even determine design?

Energy 2.0: Energy turnaround, Fukushima, energy distribution, smart grid, micro grid: which ones are today a reality, which ones will be the standard tomorrow?

The Next Big Thing: What will be the next really big thing in the coming years in architecture, structural engineering, building systems, lighting, design and materials science?

What will become a reality in our society, and what will be accepted?

Emerging Stars: Who are the star architects of tomorrow? Who will be building in 20 years time? And where will they be looking for their commissions and projects?

Forum A6

The forum in Hall A6 looks at the role of the architect now and in the future.

In Part 1, which BAU is organizing in cooperation with the architectural journal AIT, several themes will be covered – each relevant to architects around the world and of fundamental interest for the building industry. The key words are:

- transcontinental cultural change in architecture

- worldwide climate change and the response in architecture

- globalization in the architecture of medical facilities

- international sports events and national architectural competence

- trends in the architecture of office blocks around the world.

In Part 2 each afternoon, will be in cooperation with DETAIL research the presentation of the results of interdisciplinary and product research for the building industry.

DETAIL research is a contacts platform run by the architectural journal DETAIL. It focuses on development issues and scenarios on the future of building.

Architects and other professionals from industry, university research and politics exchange views in the DETAIL research network. DETAIL collects, structures, assesses and communicates these results on a cross-media basis.

At BAU a few of the themes in architectural research will be presented by architects, researchers and representatives from industry.

A trend panel will be giving an introduction to the current status of research in the various areas.

Here, too, this slide shows the changing themes each day.

Forum B0

Forum B0 concentrates on the big themes in the building sector:

- Sustainability and dwindling resources

- Energy generation and energy-efficiency in Germany, Europe and the world

- Intelligent networking of buildings

- Demographic change and universal design.

Because these major themes can be viewed and analyzed from a number of different perspectives, we are working with three partners in this forum: The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development, the Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance and the Bundesarbeitskreis Altbauerneuerung (BAKA), a working group on renovation and modernization. The German Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Development will be reporting in a number of lectures on research and grant initiatives and on the political goals and legal framework. The Fraunhofer Building Innovation Alliance, comprising 16 different institutions, is presenting some of its research work and illustrating this with specific project examples.

Another focus in this forum is modernization and renovation of buildings. In the lectures given by the Bundesarbeitskreis Altbauerneuerung (BAKA, a working group on renovation and modernization), attention will focus on how to improve existing buildings to meet the challenges of the future.

Speakers and presentations of the three forums can be found in detail here

www.bau-muenchen.com under the heading Supporting Programme.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in German and English at all these three forums of BAU 2013.
