The story of a passionate inventor

Paul Desaulniers is an extremely passionate inventor. His biggest dream was always to imagine THE rigging and safe lifting solution for workers. After years of work and developement, he proposed in 2012 an effective sling release easy to use. The GOTCHA is the name of this invention, it’s available in two models that can lift up to 2250 kg load in a first case and up to 4500 kg load for the second. Always striving to do more and better, Mr. Desaulniers is working on a new Gotcha that can lift weights up to 18125kg.

The story of a great invention
Let’s go back to trace the story of this success. We are in 1986. An entrepreneur at heart, Mr. Paul Desaulniers opens is first company he calls Roulement 2000. Six years later, he merged his company with Soupapes Varennes in order to combine his talents of inventors and those of a team of experienced machinists.

Then, in 2004, he created Groupe Industriel DL, a company specializing in the repair and sale of industrial parts which will include an R & D department which he will take responsibility. He then has one goal: to put his ingenuity and creativity to the construction industry.

The years continue to run and it was finally in 2012 it will be finally ready to present the most famous of his inventions, the Gotcha. "It was a lot of hard work but well worth it, he says. Before we get to the current version, it took several prototypes, all tested on sites with professional crane operators. It was necessary to ensure that this invention would really add value for the employees and not just a gimmick, more or less useful. »

An automated sling release with remote control
Gotcha is an automatic sling release for any load moved using a crane. "Until now, you had to send workers to get the load off the crane, which remained a risky maneuver. With the Gotcha and is remote control, everything is done automatically, accurately and safely, "says the inventor. Specifically, he cites the example of the placement of roof trusses on a construction that requires a lot of precision.

In addition, the Gotcha includes a signal that alerts workers at the release of the unit. The Gotcha is also provided with a positioning sensor of the ejector plates and a weight sensor which prevents accidental firing.
Eliminate the risk of accidents for workers
For Mr. Desaulniers, the goal is to eliminate the risk of accidents for workers and increase efficiency and productivity on construction sites. "The Gotcha is recognized by the Workers Health and Safety Commission and we are currently patent pending internationally. To date, people who have tried the Gotcha have been very impressed. They are in operation in several Canadian provinces and US states. We also seek a breakthrough in Europe in 2015. "

Specifications

  • ASME B30.20

  • OSHA 1926.251 (a)(4)

  • It also complies with the Construction Safety Code

Among the companies that have tested the Gotcha Mr. Desaulniers recalls with pride the Cirque du Soleil, the team was excited about

the possibilities of this wonderful invention.

"The more we develop the concept and the more we find different applications. That people of international reputation such as Cirque du Soleil are interested in us is a pat on the back, an encouragement to continue the work. "

The Gotcha is highly efficient in three levels: it increases the pace of work, ensuring worker safety and in the end, it allows companies to reduce costs. "Buy a Gotcha quickly becomes a very profitable investment," says Mr. Desaulniers.

Craneequipment.ca is very proud to have entered into an exclusive distribution agreement for the Gotcha in Quebec. Currently, we are negotiating for wider distribution agreement in the rest of Canada and we are looking for distributors for the USA and Europe.

A promising future
In addition to the Gotcha, Paul Desaulniers continues his research in order to continue to innovate. He has received several requests to adapt the principle of the Gotcha in different contexts. For example, he was approached to imagine that a trigger system running under water. The wind industry and even the nuclear industry looks forward to the possibility of an application in their field of activities without forgetting the mines that have a great interest in the Gotcha heavy load that are to come.
