The global heavylifting specialists were awarded the contract by Apply Leirvik to conduct all sites moves utilising SPMTs. In July, ALE jacked-up the first module, weighing 1,000t, 13m mated with the lower LQ sub-modules using 72 axle lines of SPMT.

This LQ module was for the Gina Krog Topside and is the second module to be jacked-up as part of ALE’s scope.

ALE’s Mega Jack 800 was used to jack-up the LQ module to a height of approximately 12m to allow for the integration of the lower transport grillage. The total jacking duration was just nine hours.

By offering a greater capacity and stability than other jacking systems, the Mega Jack 800 also benefits from bespoke control and monitoring systems which allows the stroke of the jacks to be controlled to fractions of a mm. This level of control and accuracy was extremely important when jacking at such a great height.

Vytis Zygialis, ALE’s Project Engineer, said: “The overall operation went really well. We chose to use our Mega Jack 800 so the module could be safely jacked-up during a short time window of just nine hours. Our clients, Apply Leirvik, were also pleased; by using this methodology and equipment it also allowed them to gain access to the module to complete construction in a quicker time than traditional jacking systems.”
