The impact and challenges of COVID-19 in the construction equipment industry were the main topic of discussion during all the Project Team (PT) meetings and also during the CECE Technical Commission meeting on the 2nd of April. Moreover, members re-evaluated the regulatory timeframe for the different subjects followed by each PT.

During the PT Machinery meeting, the group spent most of the time discussing the position of the construction industry manufactures on the upcoming revision of the Machinery Directive. Important topics included definitions of Machine and Partly Completed Machinery, format of instructions and the challenges of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence.

During the PT Road Circulation meeting, members worked on a feedback to the European Commission on the technical requirements for a future proposal on the harmonisation of road circulation requirements for Non-Road Mobile Machinery.

During the PT 3R, the group updated on the database on Substances of Concern In articles as such or in complex objects Products (SCIP) under development by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The timeline for the implementation of the database (5th January 2021) was pointed as problematic by members. The group also discussed priorities related to the New Circular Economy Plan (CEAP).

The Project Team on Data discussed on cybersecurity, evaluating the future needs for the sector.

The so-called 'technical week' takes place in Brussels every quarter and gathers all the technical experts nominated by CECE members to work in the 6 active Project Teams and in CECE’s Technical Commission. Next CECE 'technical week' is scheduled for end of June.
