Drop Sides on DRAKKAR Multi-Purpose Trailers

Since the Drakkar has been introduced at Agritechnica in 2011, things have changed for the Joskin multi-purpose trailer with mobile front wall", says Dietmar Franke, Belgian company's PR officer. "In addition to the extension of the range, the number of options has increased. It is in this sense that we will introduce during the 2015 edition of Agritechnica a Drakkar version with a hydraulic drop side", adds Mr Franke.

For the story, the Drakkar is the Joskin answer to the push-off vehicles. The feature of this trailer is the conveyor belt on the floor that rolls and unrolls at the back of the vehicle (with the patented Catena® unloading assistance, depending on the model) and the following front wall. So, if the conveyor belt rolls at the back, the front wall is also brought to the back, which ensures the complete unloading of the trailer. It allows the material to be unloaded without any compression.

Today, the Drakkar is available in 12 different models characterized by their body length and height.

The drop side is hydraulically driven and can be fitted on left or right side.

It is therefore possible to have two drop sides on the left and on the right. However, this assembly is not recommended for the European market due to the 2.55m body width restriction.

The 4,700mm x 800mm drop side is located at the front left or right hand, whatever the model. The raw material used to manufacture it is the same as for the whole body, i.e. UV-resistant polyester reinforced with glass fiber so that the material cannot stick on the panel (clay or earth).

The drop side is operated from a DA connection of the tractor or more easily from the control box. For safety reasons, the drop side is also mechanically locked once it is closed in order to avoid any "looseness" due to road unevenness and therefore any losses.

Some facts about the DRAKKAR:

• Trailers fitted with a hydraulic drop side are of course still tight.

• The fixed 500mm silage extensions are still available to those who wish to use the trailer in the most multifunctional way possible outside the potato harvesting period. Only the hydraulic extensions are no more compatible.

• The trailer can still be fitted with covering nets with hydraulic control.

• Currently, there is no automatic and hydraulic sliding cover system (mounted at the front) yet to fit the Drakkar with fold-down side panel, but JOSKIN says it is working on a way to make both options compatible.
