  • The ERA Board has established the OSH Working Group, focusing on health and safety within the equipment rental industry, aligning with UN-SDGs for sustainability

  •  ERA's OSH Purpose and Vision Statement emphasizes a commitment to preventing injuries and ensuring a safe, healthy, and inclusive work environment for all stakeholders in the equipment rental sector.

  • ERA's approach to occupational safety and health is structured around ISO standards, focusing on management commitment, strategy development, risk management, and continuous improvement.

“Health & Safety” is an important business element for the Rental Industry and one ‎of the core areas within the next strategic period of ERA to support the overall vision ‎to increase the attractiveness of rental as an employer.‎ It is also of central interest for many customer groups of the rental ‎industry.‎ Furthermore, it is anchored within the UN-SDGs (Strategic ‎Development Goals) and has therefore a great fit to the sustainability initiatives of ‎ERA.‎ For those reasons, the ERA Board decided last year to create the OSH Working Group, which is composed by rental companies and rental associations. The Working Group has just issued “ERA OSH Purpose and Vision ‎Statement”.

ERA´s Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Purpose and Vision Statement reflects a deep commitment to ensuring the well-being of all individuals involved in the equipment rental industry. With a focus on “Caring for People” and being “Passionate About Health & Safety” ERA recognises that the foundation of success lies in the satisfaction and performance of a highly motivated team.

Central to this vision is the belief that all injuries are preventable with the right attitude and competence, and that everyone has the right to a safe, healthy, and inclusive working environment. ERA is dedicated to excellence in occupational health and safety, with a strong emphasis on compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements. Moreover, ERA goes beyond mere compliance by identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and providing support to its members.

The target audience for this purpose statement includes employees of rental companies, customers, OEMs, national rental associations, governmental bodies, regulatory bodies, the public, insurance companies, shareholders, and investors. By collaborating with stakeholders and integrating health and safety practices into every aspect of operations, ERA aims to enhance the overall performance and perception of the equipment rental industry.

The structure and systematic approach outlined in the statement align with ISO standards and emphasise management commitment, strategy development, team integration, risk management, and continuous improvement. ERA's proactive approach to occupational safety and health highlights its commitment to nurturing a culture of care and accountability throughout the industry.

The OSH Working Group is currently working on the following topics: list of most common accidents in the industry, list of top health issues creating a benchmark for these across the industry, collecting best practices in the area, and creating an ERA toolbox on safety.
