A new perspective on the construction and building industry focusing on its social, contemporary and practical contribution to developing modern society and improving worldwide living conditions. That and much more is the ambitious aim of the third edition of  Pilosio’s International Building the Peace Award, to be held on Wednesday, April 17th at the Pilosio Stand (N 1020/1) during the Bauma Trade Fair. Dario Roustayan, Pilosio’s CEO, explains: “Through this event, we are giving prominence and importance to those who improve people's lives through construction.” The name of the winner in 2013 is still top secret, but what is certain is that he or she will be a leading figure with a worldwide reputation. The event will be presented by Alessio Vinci, a renowned Italian journalist who worked for many years at CNN. The sampling of some typical Italian food and wines will round off the special day.

Last year, the award was won by the innovative Italian architect Mario Cucinella, along with the UN’s representative in the Palestinian territories, Munir Manneh, for their project A Green School for Gaza. Thanks to them, a completely self-sufficient school is currently under construction in the challenging land of Gaza. In its first year, in 2011, the prize was won by Mario Collavino, an entrepreneur who emigrated from Italy to Canada in the fifties. Today, as head of the Collavino Construction Company, based in Windsor, he is participating in the construction of the Freedom Tower in New York, one of the most symbolic projects in the world. It features a design by the celebrated international architect Daniel Libeskind for a futuristic building at Ground Zero, exactly ten years after the tragic attacks on the Twin Towers..

Pilosio’s International Building the Peace Award has also been an opportunity to showcase some acclaimed international speakers, such as the business guru, Ram Charam of India, who is widely regarded as the most influential business strategy consultant in the world and was the star guest in 2011. His speech, entitled Leadership and execution in the new world, was an exploration of market globalization and how to realise one’s full potential as a business leader and manager. Another guest was the great economist, Nouriel Roubini, who delivered an eagerly awaited speech in 2012. The audience were treated to new forecasts on the global economic future from the man Americans dubbed “Doctor Doom” for having predicted the coming great international recession as long ago as 2006, which he identified as originating in “bricks and mortar”.

As well as leading speakers, previous award ceremonies have seen contributions from many market operators. The representatives of major construction companies and sector operators took to the stage, such as Italcementi, Rizzani De Eccher, Saipem, Saudi Bin Laden Group, Unispan, Arabian Roots Group and many others.
