Specifically, along with AGRAGEX, Vyrsa, RKD Irrigación, Cilindros y Cromados Palentinos (Cicrosa), Jympa 1971, Growket, Agrator, Cuchillería Agrícola Martorell (Cumar), STF Filtros, Químicas Meristem and Goizper will participate in the trade delegation.

The main objective set by AGRAGEX with this commercial activity is to deepen the knowledge of the agricultural and livestock market of Peru and Ecuador, promoting the products manufactured in Spain and tightening the commercial ties with both countries.

Throughout the five days of this trade delegation, the participating Spanish businessmen will meet with local importers and distributors in an intense agenda, which will start in Lima (Peru) the 1st and 2nd of April; to be continued the 3rd and 4th of April in Quito (Ecuador); finishing the 5th of April in Guayaquil (Ecuador).

‘From AGRAGEX we are confident that this journey will lay the foundations for a stronger commercial cooperation with distributors from both of these countries’, states the international trade advisor, Olatz Amorrortu. ‘Both Peru and Ecuador represent big opportunities for our companies, and we must make sure to showcase the high quality standards of the Spanish manufactures’.

Rafael Madina, export representative in AGRATOR, one of the companies travelling with AGRAGEX, claims that the presence in these countries will allow this Basque firm to “provide with solutions to the mechanization and soil preparation needs of the many different crops and for the shredding of post-harvest debris and vineyard and fruit tree pruning residues” for the Ecuadorian and Peruvian farmers. ‘Peru and Ecuador are markets in which the arable soil is quickly growing, where there is still a lot to be done regarding agricultural mechanization of crops, such as rice, fruit trees and vineyard, in which Agrator already has many years of experience’, states.

For Madina, going with AGRAGEX and ICEX ‘makes everything easier in faraway countries, mainly to coordinate with the OFECOMES (the Spanish foreign trade office network). Furthermore, the feeling of belonging to a group is very nice, allowing us to end the day with a dinner in good company’.

Two important countries for the Spanish exporter

The importance of Peru for the Spanish exporters of agricultural machinery and its components is obvious, given that the Peruvian economy is the 5th largest in South America. It is also the 3rd largest country in the region with 1,286,216 square kilometres, and the 4th most populated, with 32.2 million inhabitants. In 2017, its agricultural production reached a 2.6% growth, comparing with the same period of the previous year.

Moreover, the agricultural sector of Ecuador accounted in 2017 for an 8.4% of the country’s GDP, and employed the 10.4% of the workforce in 2016. Despite its small size, for AGRAGEX this country is interesting due to the lack of mechanization and imports dependence (around 95%).
