The demand for semi-trailers for vans increased again in February. What types and brands were bought more often?

Experts of the Auto Market Research Institute analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine in February and identified the top types and brands in three segments of semi-trailers: import of used, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

Dynamics of the semi-trailer market

As in the segment of semi-trailer trucks, in February the activity of the market in the trade of semi-trailers for them increased somewhat. During February 2024, Ukrainians purchased 2,700 new and used semi-trailers. It   by a significant 24.7% less than in the same period last year in 2023, but by 9.1% more than in January 2024.

According to the results of February , 56.5% of all semi-trailers were bought on the domestic market (1.5 thousand transactions). 961 used semi-trailers were brought from abroad, which made up 36% of the total number.

7.5% of semi-trailers were purchased new(200 pcs.). Of this number, 30 were produced in Ukraine, and the remaining 170 units. were imported new from abroad.

The most popular semi-trailers on the domestic market

The highest demand on the domestic market in February was observed for tipper semi-trailers. 26.8%, or 405 units, purchased these. quantitatively Flatbed semi-trailers ( 11.4%, 172 units) and container trucks ( 10.9%, 164 units) do not lose their popularity.

Flatbed ( 9.3%, 141 units) and tented semi-trailers (135 units, 8.9% ) also made it to the Top-5.

Among manufacturers, the German Shmitz remains the leader of the domestic semi-trailer market. Among all semi-trailers, they were 21% (318 units).

The second and third places were also occupied by German brands — Krone (170 units, 11.3% ) and Koegel (147 units, 9.7% ), respectively.

Austrian Schwarzmuller took fourth place (69 units, 4.6% ), Polish Bodex took fifth place (45 units, 3% ).

The most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad

During February 2024, the most frequently imported from abroad were awning semi-trailers( 32%, 308 units), refrigerators ( 13.6%, 131 units) and dump trucks ( 13.5%, 130 units).

Tented platforms ( 11.3%, 109 pcs.) and container carriers ( 11.1%, 107 pcs.) also entered the top five most popular by type.

Manufacturers: the first in the list of the most popular used semi-trailers brought from abroad was the Shmitz brand. Its share was 40.3% (388 units).

Second place was taken by Krone products (142 units, 14.8% ). Koegel was in third place (74 units, 7.7% ), and Schwarzmueller was in fourth place (26 units, 2.7% ).

Stas closes the top five (21 units, 2.2% ).

The most popular new semi-trailers

The majority of all new semi-trailers bought in February are tipper semi- trailers (83 units, 41.5% ).

12% in this market segment was occupied by refrigerators (24 units), 10% by tanks (20 units), occupying the second and third places, respectively.

The fourth place with a share of 8% (16 pcs.) went to the tented options, the fifth in number, with a total of 12 pcs. and a share of 6% is shared between tanks for dangerous goods and platforms.

The rating of manufacturers of new semi-trailers will continue to be headed by the German Shmitz ( 27%, 54 units). Second place in Mega (24 units, 12% ), third in Stas (10%, 20 units).

The fourth step in the products of the Everlast brand (17 units, 8.5% ), closes the first five Bodex with a total of 7.5% and 15 semi-trailers.
