What truck tractors do Ukrainian carriers choose? Results of February

Experts of the Institute of Car Market Research analyzed the statistics of vehicle registrations in Ukraine during February and identified the top models in three segments of truck tractors: import of used vehicles, domestic resale and purchase of new ones.

In February 2024, Ukrainians purchased 2,500 new and used truck tractors. This figure is 24.4% lower than in the same period of 2023, but 8.9% higher than sales in January 2024.

The share of domestic sales was 55.3%, import of used truck tractors was 38.1%.The total share of "trucks" with mileage was 93.4%.

6.6% of truck tractors were purchased new, which in quantitative terms equals 165 units of such equipment.

During 2023, demand for truck tractors gradually decreased, and only in January 2024 there was some increase in activity in this segment. The lowest volume of tractor-trailer sales in 12 months was recorded last year in December (2.1 thousand units). There were several reasons for this: partial (close to complete) satisfaction of the needs of carriers (primarily international) in such vehicles, which were in short supply a year ago, and they were actively bought, because after the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine, the main transport for export-import of goods became automotive. Blocking of borders with several countries by so-called "activist farmers" also left their mark on the business of international carriers, which, unfortunately, resumed after a short pause. However, even despite the presence of objective negative factors, we still see some increase in activity in this segment based on the results of February.

The most popular tractors on the domestic market

DAF XF confidently remains the most popular tractor unit on the domestic market in Ukraine. Agreements for the purchase and sale of such models were concluded in 385 units. The second place in terms of quantity is shared by MAN TGX and Volvo FH, both bought 184 units.

According to this principle, the third is Renault Magnum (149 units), the fourth is Renault Premum (95 units). In fifth place is MAN TGA with a total of 72 tractors.

The most popular used tractors imported from abroad

In February, MAN TGX (261 units) once again won the championship among the "driven" tractors. In second place on the list is DAF XF (220 units).

The Volvo FH (162 units) will continue to occupy the third place, and the Scania R-Series (102 units) will take the fourth place. Closes the first five Renault T-series (40 units).
