Upgraded Komatsu PC800-8/PC800LC-8 hydraulic excavators: Powerful, Productive and Reliable.

Vilvoorde, July 2011 .Komatsu Europe International n.v. announces an upgrade to their PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 hydraulic excavators. Built on proven technology, these machines now feature increased productivity and safety, higher operator comfort and additional KOMTRAX™ features. They are ideal for quarry work or large scale construction projects, as well as other high production applications.

The powerful PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 have a flywheel horsepower of 370kW and an operating weight between 78.800 and 84.700 kg. Bucket capacities up to 6,91 cubic meters can be installed, depending on boom and arm length, material density, and application conditions.

The excavators are equipped with Komatsu’s KOMTRAX™ technology which provides daily machine information through a secure website utilizing wireless technology. Features now include energy saving reports with tips for a more fuel efficient operation, location, cautions, load ratio, and maintenance alerts. All data is relayed to the web application for analysis. The KOMTRAX™ fleet monitoring system increases machine availability, reduces the risk of machine theft, allows for remote diagnosis by the distributor, and provides a wealth of other information to drive business efficiency and productivity.

“The Komtrax system makes it simple to manage the productivity of the PC800-8 machine”, says Simon Saunders product manager at Komatsu. “It helps to minimise downtime by planning maintenance to match the shift patterns of the quarry."

Exceptional power with reduced exhaust emissions

The PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 get their exceptional power and work capacity from a Komatsu SAA6D140E-5 engine, with a cooled EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system, and comply with EU Stage IIIA emission regulations.. Low external noise levels are achieved by using a hybrid blade variable speed cooling fan. The fan speed varies with engine coolant, hydraulic oil and ambient temperature and is reversible to make cleaning the radiator and hydraulic cooler easy.  Hydraulically driven, the fan absorbs less power from the engine, and helps to reduce fuel consumption.

The PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 are equipped with two working modes (Power and Economy). Each mode matches engine speed, pump flow and system pressure to specific application requirements, giving the operator flexibility to match equipment performance to the job at hand. Economy mode features four level settings, allowing the operator to achieve required production with the lowest possible fuel consumption. The Heavy Lift mode gives the operator 10% more lifting force on the boom when needed to handle large rocks. The one-touch Power Max function temporarily increases digging force by almost 10%, helping to drive through difficult obstructions.

Enhanced operator comfort, safety and productivity.

The PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 are equipped with Komatsu’s renowned Dash 8 operator cab, , with high visibility and first class operator comfort. A high back, heated air suspension seat and the automatic air conditioner, dual air filters maintain a very comfortable working environment in any weather conditions. A higher internal air pressure minimises dust ingress.. Exceptionally low in-cab noise levels are achieved through significant sound level reduction across the machine system.

A new laminated front screen provides increased protection against stone chips.  Exceptional job site safety is further enhanced by the standard installation of the rear view camera, feeding into the wide screen, full colour, machine monitor panel with TFT (Thin Film Technology).

"The new quarry specification operator cab with integrated roll over cage on the latest PC800-8 gives enhanced protection and confidence to the operator” says Simon Saunders. “The addition of the rear view camera with an integrated feed into the widescreen monitor panel enhances site safety without compromising the view from the cab windows".

Highly reliable and built to last

All major components of the PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 are designed and produced by Komatsu. Booms and arms exhibit long-term durability and are highly resistant to bending and torsional stress due to large cross-sectional structures, thick high tensile strength steel, interior partition walls, and extensive use of large castings. Highly reliable electronic devices have passed severe testing, metal guard rings protect all hydraulic cylinders, and the electrical connectors are completely sealed against dirt and moisture.

Maintenance made easy

Equipped with Komatsu’s exclusive EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System), the PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 were designed to reduce costly downtime. EMMS continually monitors all critical excavator systems, alerting and guiding the operator should a problem occur. By preventing a small problem from becoming a major service issue, EMMS contributes to operating cost reduction. The system also tracks the preventative maintenance schedule, providing on-board warning as required maintenance becomes due. Error codes and troubleshooting assistance is available at the EMMS display, minimizing diagnosis and repair time.

PC800-8 / PC800LC-8 service points are easily accessible and grouped for fast machine checks and preventative maintenance service. A wide catwalk, large handrails and steps, and slip resistant plates offer easy and safe access throughout the machine.
