Engine power and torque ranges are rising continuously. And with the VG 2700 transfer case, ZF offers a driveline technology which has been specifically designed for the strongest engines in heavy all-wheel-drive vehicles.

With the VG 2700 transfer case, ZF meets the requirements of more powerful commercial vehicle engines. With a maximum input torque of 35,000 Nm, the VG 2700 is one of the strongest transfer cases worldwide for heavy all-wheel-drive vehicles. This is also confirmed by the annual increase of production figures. The VG 2700 completes ZF's product portfolio in the transfer case sector for light, medium, and heavy all-wheel-drive trucks. The underlying modular system enables ZF to offer a multitude of customized transfer case versions and solutions in a torque range from 10,000 to 35,000 Nm. All ZF transfer cases are weight-optimized, have two speeds and are available with and without lockable differential.

VG 2700 transfer case

The VG 2700 is a two-speed transfer case, which distributes the driving power to the driven axles. As a standard, it is equipped with an oil pump and ADM dog clutches. It can be operated with a lockable longitudinal differential for permanent all-wheel drive or without differential for manual front axle engagement and disengagement. Its compact design and an input torque of maximum 35,000 Nm makes it one of the most powerful transfer cases of the world.

ZFADM Automatic Drivetrain Management An ideal optional supplement to the VG 2700 and all other ZF transfer cases is the ZF ADM – Automatic Drivetrain Management. ADM has been developed to meet the increasing requirements regarding driving safety, operator convenience, and economy. ZF ADM is a fully automatic system for the central control of all shifting functions in the driveline – a high-tech package consisting of mechanics, electronics, and software for every heavy all-wheel-drive vehicle like mobile cranes and trucks.

The core components of the system are ZF ADM dog clutches, fitted in the axles and the ZF Transfer Case. Actuated by the ADM electronic control unit, the specific dog clutches in the differentials allow shifting on the fly. The speeds of all wheels are measured and compared with each other by using the signals of the installed speed sensors. When slip is detected on one of the wheels, the control unit automatically activates the differential locks within a millisecond. Furthermore, the locks remain active only as long as there is missing traction on one or more wheels. As soon as the differential locks are not needed anymore, they open automatically by spring force, thus preventing mechanical damage to the driveline as well as incorrect operation by inexperienced drivers. With ADM, the driver does not permanently have to pay attention to ground conditions anymore and does not have to stop in order to engage the differential locks manually. This is done fully automatically on the fly, which results in a safer and faster drive. ZF ADM contributes notably to increased safety – both on the road and in difficult terrain.
