40 Years and 400,000 Units for Doosan at Intermat 2018

One of the main themes at Intermat 2018 of the Doosan Construction Equipment stand in Hall 5b and outside in the demonstration area will be a celebration of both the company’s 40 years in excavator manufacture and the sale of the 400,000th machine since the company started in the construction equipment market. These milestones will be marked by a series of special events at Intermat, which will take place alongside a presentation of several new developments in the Doosan excavator range.

The first of these will be seen on the top-of-the-range 52 tonne DX530LC-5 crawler excavator on the stand in Hall 5b which in the near future will incorporate Doosan’s innovative D-ECOPOWER technology for the first time. Previously only available on the DX380LC-5 model, the D-ECOPOWER system will be available on both the DX530LC-5 and the next model in the range – the 50 tonne DX490LC-5 – and provides operators with increases in productivity and fuel efficiency, as well as smoother controls.

There are several new innovations available to customers from Doosan Smart Solutions that will be shown for the first time at Intermat. To meet increasing demand for grade control systems, all Doosan crawler excavators will soon be Trimble-Ready and incorporate 3D grading systems as an option, as well as the latest updated version of the company’s DoosanConnect state-of-the-art, wireless fleet and asset management system as standard.

Another development from Doosan Smart Solutions is the availability of factory-mounted SVAB joystick tilt rotor management systems for Doosan excavators. At Intermat, the Doosan SVAB system will be shown on a DX165W-5 wheeled excavator in the outside area, equipped with a tilt-rotator from Steelwrist, the preferred range for Doosan excavators. Doosan is also offering new factory-mounted options for electrical steering and digging brake systems.

Other developments just launched include a new articulated boom for the DX160LC-5 High Track crawler excavator, providing a wider working environment and more convenience when working on tough applications.

Doosan will also be presenting the company’s extended mini-excavator range for the first time at Intermat 2018. Doosan will be showing the DX19, one of three models recently added to the range along with the new DX10Z and DX17Z models in 2017, which form part of full range of nine Doosan mini-excavators from 1.1 to 8.6 tonne.

Doosan D-ECOPOWER Technology

The D-ECOPOWER technology available in the near future on the DX490LC-5 and DX530LC-5 excavators utilises an electronic pressure-controlled pump within a closed centre hydraulic system to accomplish increases of up to 26% in productivity and up to 12% fuel consumption improvements, depending on the mode selected. A closed centred main control valve minimises pressure loss, while the electric pressure-controlled pump manages and optimises engine power more effectively.

The D-ECOPOWER system uses nine sensors to detect the amount of hydraulic oil necessary to accomplish a specific task and precisely meter the amount of oil required rather than continuously forcing a fixed amount of oil through the system, thereby improving efficiency. Software is utilised to electronically reproduce the full benefits of an open centre hydraulic system with very little energy loss. The hydraulic system and engine horsepower are fully optimised and synchronised, further reducing losses within the system.

Improved feedback to the operator through the joystick results in improved machine control and less operator fatigue. The acceleration and deceleration of the excavator workgroup functions are smoother, allowing operators to perform repetitive swinging and digging motions with less jerking movements.

The DX490LC-5 and DX530LC-5 are both powered by the Scania DC13 diesel engine, providing 283 kW of power at 1800 rpm. The engine meets Stage IV emission regulations without the need of a diesel particulate filter (DPF), through the use of cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and selective catalyst reduction (SCR) after-treatment technologies.

DoosanConnect Enhanced

Doosan is now offering an enhanced version of its DoosanConnect system, a web-based fleet management solution which is very useful for monitoring the performance and security of machines and promoting preventative maintenance. It is available as a standard feature on all new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant excavators (from 14 tonne), all new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant wheel loaders and the new generation Doosan Stage IV compliant ADTs.

The new service allows owners and dealers to remotely monitor and communicate with Doosan machines via the DoosanConnect telematics website. Also available for retro-fitting in a kit form, the DoosanConnect system is supplied with a free 3-year subscription and customers are provided with their own account so that they can manage the machines in their fleet using the system. Once the 3-year complimentary period expires, customers have the option to purchase a service extension.

According to Doosan, the DoosanConnect telematics system provides significant benefits for customers through the use of operational data that help improve efficiency, such as altering machine idle times based on fuel usage, machine security and safety. The system can support multiple Doosan machines in different locations, helping customers to monitor machine utilisation rates to assess that the right mix of machines is being used.

New High Track Excavators

Doosan Construction Equipment has recently launched the new DX160LC-5 HT and DX180LC-5 HT Stage IV compliant High Track Crawler Excavators, complementing the company’s best-selling standard configuration DX140LC-5 14 tonne and DX180LC-5 18 tonne mid-range excavators.

The new DX160LC-5 HT excavator combines the upper structure from the DX140LC-5 14 tonne model with an 18 tonne class high track undercarriage system, increasing the ground clearance from 410 mm in the DX140LC-5 to an impressive 615 mm. The DX180LC-5 HT is an enhanced version of the DX180LC-5 excavator, incorporating a reinforced structure and a carefully re-engineered, high performance braking system, offering the same ground clearance of 615 mm, compared to 460 mm in the DX180LC-5.

The new High Track models have been designed to meet the needs of customers requiring a combination of higher ground clearance, a reinforced track frame and a strong traction system with reinforced upper rollers for work in harsh environments and on projects where larger travelling distances are involved.

The new machines are particularly suited for constructing roadways, mounding, earthmoving and other duties in the forestry industry, where the higher ground clearance, durable travelling system and the traction force allow them to move with ease over rough terrain, negotiate obstacles such as fallen tree trunks and to pull trailers loaded with wood. Doosan has announced a new articulated boom option for the DX160LC-5 HT crawler excavator that provides a wider working environment and more convenience when working on tough applications.

Doosan Expands Mini-Excavator Range!

Representing the expanded mini-excavator range from Doosan at Intermat will be the DX19 model. The optimised hydraulic system in the DX19 mini-excavator makes the best possible use of the engine power available from the Kubota D722 diesel engine providing an output of 9.9 kW at 2500 RPM (ISO 9249). This results in fast cycle times, which are combined with smooth control of class-leading breakout forces, which include a digging force over the bucket (ISO) of 20.8 kN.

Equipped with a cab, rubber tracks, long blade and bucket, the DX19 has an operating weight of 1894 kg. With the long arm, the maximum digging depth of the DX19 is 2565 mm, the maximum dump height is 2693 mm and the maximum reach at ground level is 4214 mm. This working range provides maximum performance and versatility in operating a wide range of attachments and the overall smoothness of the hydraulic system is further enhanced by boom and arm cylinder cushioning.
