Far from the hustle and bustle of urban life, a quality, landscaped park with individual plots for touring caravans, campers and static caravans has been evolving over the last 28 years into one of the most popular and successful sites voted for by over 13000 readers of Practical Caravan 2015. The family run business headed up by proprietor John Fleming continues to develop this most sort after destination with the addition of quality bespoke permanent homes and lodges as a continuation to the site’s development.

In order to assist in this development, Mr Fleming has purchased a new Volvo ECR58D from Volvo’s recently appointed utility dealer for the north of Scotland – CSM Sales Ltd.  “The ECR58D replaces an older 6 tonne machine and I have to say I’m impressed with the superior build quality as well as the handling and performance of the Volvo,” he says. “Having the back-up from on hand from CSM and Volvo is equally important so our initial thoughts on purchasing our first Volvo are very positive,” he continues.

The new six tonne Volvo reduced swing radius machine is ideally sized for the tasks required of it at the Grantown-on-Spey Caravan Park which include general maintenance around the site, profiling and landscaping the immediate surroundings and more importantly, preparing the bases for the new permanent abodes. “Another important feature about the machine is its ability to operate quite happily at less than half throttle which means our residents aren’t disturbed by excessive noise emissions around the site and this also greatly assists with economical fuel consumption,” comments John Fleming. “Yes it certainly is a good all-rounder.”

The Volvo ECR58D is powered by a Volvo 2.6 litre low emission engine producing 48 hp coupled to a load sensing hydraulic system for fast cycle times and smooth control. The machine offers a generous horizontal reach of 6.3 metres and a lift capacity of 660kg at full reach across the carriage. Operator comfort and excellent access to all the service points have added to John Fleming’s appreciation of the machine; for instance the ECR58D has a comfortable, spacious cab with a wide uncluttered floor. The instrument panel provides operators with at-a-glance monitoring of all key functions and operator fatigue is reduced through easy-grip, high response joystick control levers. The rubber-mounted cabs reduce whole-body vibration, and external noise minimizing the rigors of the jobsite whilst air conditioning with well positioned vents is a standard feature.
