A successful home game: BAUER Maschinen Group displays lots of technical highlights at the Bauma 2016

Safety and energy efficiency were the major topics at this year's Bauma. The mega-show once again attracted many hundreds of thousands of visitors to the enormous site in the east of Munich. The BAUER Maschinen Group from Schrobenhausen in Bavaria – world market leader in equipment for specialist foundation engineering as well as for exploration, development and exploitation of natural resources – once again presented its full range of equipment for specialist foundation engineering at the exhibition area. Alongside Bauer's core area, rotary drilling rigs and duty-cycle cranes including cutters and grabs, Klemm, Prakla, Hausherr, RTG, ABS Trenchless and MAT also displayed their new developments. "The Bauma is a superlative show, nowhere else do so many international visitors forgather to find out about the latest trends in the construction machinery industry," said Dieter Stetter, Chairman of the Management Board of BAUER Maschinen GmbH. "We also sensed the great international presence at our booth. We took part in lots of excellent, highly promising discussions, and we sold many rigs in the course of the Bauma week. The mood at the booth was fantastic!"

An attraction at the Bauer booth was a model construction site for diaphragm wall technology – together with guide wall on the floor. A BC 35 trench cutter was shown on an MC 96 duty-cycle crane with the new, rotating HDS-T hose drum system at the masthead. Alongside this, a diaphragm wall grab "worked" on a GB 46 base carrier. This base carrier for the hydraulic diaphragm wall grab was equipped with a new free-fall system. Equipment from MAT Mischanlagentechnik supplemented the overall system.

BAUER Maschinen GmbH presented its core area of machines for specialist foundation engineering with four heavy-duty rotary drilling rigs of the multi-functional PremiumLine, equipped with various attachments and tools. All the rigs featured the performance improvements recently introduced; they are available with the EEP Energy Efficiency Package and with Tier 4 final engines. Alongside this, Bauer also presented a new generation of ValueLine drilling rigs – a medium-sized platform range that is designed for bored piles with a diameter of up to 2.5 meters and a drilling depth of up to 70 meters. The medium-sized platform range includes the BAUER BG 26 and BG 30. The core element is the common BT base carrier, which was entirely designed and constructed by Bauer. The modern and highly functional base carrier does not just score points for its high safety standards and very low noise emissions. Large cross-sections in the hydraulic pipes and an degree of optimal motor efficiency guarantee economic fuel consumption.

Also Klemm Bohrtechnik, RTG Rammtechnik, Hausherr, ABS Trenchless, Prakla and MAT Mischanlagentechnik had numerous exhibits on show. Klemm displayed six rigs – a new generation of drilling rigs, which, with a completely newly developed drive module, adhere to the limits of Tier 4 (EU) or 4 final (EPA) emission standards. Hausherr was represented by the largest drilling rig HBM 160. ABS Trenchless displayed a horizontal drilling rig; Prakla presented its RB 60 mobile universal rotary drilling rig – this drilling rig with a hook load up to 600 kilonewtons has been completely technically modernized and is now more clearly differentiated. RTG Rammtechnik – the specialist for telescopic leaders and piling vibrators to vibrate sheet piles – was represented at the Bauer booth with two exhibits. The world premiere of RTG's soundproofed vibrator took place at Bauma. This type of insulation is only possible through the patented and unique lubrication and cooling system.

BAUER Maschinen GmbH won the EuroTest prize during the Bauma in recognition for its innovative safety concept for drilling rigs: Managing Director René Gudjons and Bruno Unger from BAUER Maschinen GmbH were delighted to accept the renowned award on April 12 at the trade fair. The German employer's liability insurance association for the construction sector (Berufsgenossenschaft der Bauwirtschaft, BG BAU for short) presented the award to the company for its outstanding achievements in the field of occupational and machinery safety. Bauer had already received a promotional prize for its drilling rig safety concept from the German association of the construction industry, environmental and machine technology (VDBUM) in February. "Safety takes top priority on construction sites," says René Gudjons. "We are delighted that we can make a significant contribution to this with our concept."

The safety concept was implemented for the new BT 70/80 and BT 75/85 base carrier lines for drilling rigs. The aim is to avoid dangerous situations and integrate the systems directly into the machinery. The extending service platforms are a decisive innovation: they allow for safe and ergonomic maintenance with a freely accessible working area. A part of the lateral paneling acts as a hand rail here. The extendable, walk-on drawers of the service platforms are stored on the underside of the base carrier to save space. When the platform is extended, the working area underneath the uppercarriage is released so that the component units can be easily reached from the ground up. The hydraulic connections for the KDK rotary head have also been modified: they can now be easily connected to the rotary drilling gearbox from the ground without climbing aids. This massively reduces the risk of falling. Additionally, foldable fall protection has been incorporated on the uppercarriage. Cameras for rear area monitoring and reversing warning systems complete the safety equipment.
