A160S: the compact power of the new Carer electric truck

The new jewel developed by the Carer design studios was created for indoor applications, where the need to lift large loads must be combined with the narrowness of movement spaces. The A160S is in fact the first electric truck in the world with 16-ton capacities of the same size as the 8-ton machines and stands out in the panorama of material handling for its design, size, visibility, performance and autonomy.

The new Carer machine was born from a widespread need especially among its customers in Northern Europe: to have a specific electric truck available for use indoors in sectors with large loads (handling of wooden panels, steel mills, carpentry, mold handling, etc.). We are talking about applications that require machines with high capacities, but with very compact dimensions: the ideal features to ensure adequate handling even in confined spaces.
Carer's designers started from the technical basis of a very successful model, the A80X with a 900 mm load center, with which the new machine could be confused at first glance, if attention is not paid to some details. The dimensions of the A160S, in fact, are almost the same, but the new machine reaches 16 tons of capacity with a center of gravity of 600 or 900 mm, depending on the version. To achieve this extraordinary result, the engineers made the most of the available geometries: by moving the mast above the axis of the front wheels and adding ballast at strategic points, they managed to obtain a very low "X dimension" (730 mm), the parameter that indicates the tilting arm of the truck. In this way, the machine is very compact, with a length almost identical to the 8 ton machine (3830 mm) and a width of only 2050 mm, but with a double capacity (16 ton).

High performances in total safety

The new machine has an attractive design, which perfectly expresses its characteristics of extreme power and compactness, and has been specifically designed to meet the different performance requirements of its operational uses.
The dimensions of the tires, for example, have been reduced, in order to limit speed to the advantage of acceleration, a fundamental feature for indoor applications: its 12 km/h speed is thus accompanied by high maneuverability in maneuvers and a brilliant acceleration (about 2.5 m/s).

Ergonomics and efficiency: the winning combination

From an ergonomic point of view, the characteristics of the A160S are the same as those of the AX series: a raised driver's seat, with comfortable access steps, and a very comfortable cabin, with glass paneling, air conditioning and heating.
The new machine also comes with integrated Terminal West sideshift and positioner: the typical equipment with only 2 cylinders allows for a reduced overhang and a good window of visibility, which reaches 500 mm inside the mast. The latter was in fact specially carried over the wheels, to widen the operator's field of view while driving.
The A160S electric truck is powered by a 96 V 1680-1720 Ah battery, which ensures the right balance between performance suited to market demands and a long range.
It is therefore a model that completes the Carer range, which now offers both the A160-200X, the large and extremely powerful machine for outdoor use, and the more compact but equally performing model for indoor use.
A fundamental aspect concerns the dedicated tires: while the A160-200X outdoor trucks are equipped with pneumatic tires, the new machine comes as standard with superelastic, because in some indoor applications the covers can be damaged in contact with the metal parts of the structures and pallets. In indoor environments, after all, the superelastic tires guarantee greater safety without reducing performances, because distances are shorter than in outdoor applications.

The advantages of the electric

The use of the new A160S truck indoors makes the advantages of the power supply even more evident.
With thermal machines, in fact, operating costs are high, because the engines remain always on, even during pauses in the handling phases: in addition to consuming fuel, they emit harmful exhaust gases and a lot of noise, elements that compromise the quality of the environments. of work.
On the contrary, electric trucks do not emit pollutants even when they are in motion, protecting the health of the operators, and they do not dirty the work environment. Moreover, thanks to the distributor, calibrated to keep the engines off in passive movements, trucks such as the A160S guarantee significant savings on operating costs and free companies from the cumbersome and dangerous presence of diesel tanks.

The new A160S electric truck is the ideal machine for those plants that until now used diesel trucks for capacity reasons, as the electric one was not able to guarantee the same performance. Now, however, thanks to the high autonomy of the electric trucks, capable of completing an entire work shift, and to the performance comparable to that of thermal machines, the choice for the electric is therefore justified by numerous advantages.
