Agritechnica 2015: DEUTZ engines are ready for EU Stage V

Between 8 and 14 November 2015, DEUTZ, the independent engine manufacturer, will be exhibiting its product range at Agritechnica in Hannover. With some 2,800 exhibitors from 52 countries, Agritechnica is the world's leading trade fair for manufacturers and suppliers of agricultural machinery.

As a pioneering company in this sector, specialising in powerful diesel engines, the DEUTZ brand stands for the development of environmentally friendly and efficient drive technologies. DEUTZ intends once again to re-assert its technology leadership with its latest TCD engines for agricultural machinery and is announcing that they already meet the EU Stage V emissions standard for the 2.9 to 7.8 litre cubic capacity range. The standard is based on the EU Commission's Stage V proposal of 25 September 2014 and is expected to be implemented with effect from January 2019. DEUTZ is able to meet this standard by fitting diesel particulate filters (DPF) which are already successfully in use in series production engines. This gives DEUTZ customers long-term planning certainty and well-engineered DPF solutions. Appropriately, the engines bear a special 'Stage V ready' seal.

Michael Wellenzohn, a member of the Board of Management of DEUTZ AG with responsibility for Sales / Service & Marketing explains: "Our Stage V ready engines allow us to provide our customers with the best possible support in their transition to Stage V products. We will achieve this thanks to the experience we have already gained in exhaust gas after treatment, especially in the use of diesel particulate filters. We will, as a result, be providing an assured technology at a very early stage, plus a flexible timeframe for implementing it without customers having to make costly modifications to their machines."

There will still be so-called emission downgrade engines, making it possible to use an across-the-board engine platform both in Stage V markets and in areas with more relaxed regulations.

DEUTZ natural gas engine for tractors

Another highlight at Agritechnica is a development by DEUTZ as part of a joint research project with Rostock University. Working together, engineers converted a diesel engine to run on natural gas and successfully installed it in a tractor. The aim was to reduce pollutants and CO2 emissions without any loss of performance. Various components of the basic DEUTZ TCD 3.6 engine had to be adapted to meet the different circumstances. The result is a fully-working experimental tractor, provided by project partner Same-Deutz-Fahr, which can be seen at their Agritechnica stand (Hall 4, Stand C36). This research project has been supported by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU).
