Agritechnica: Continental presents a comprehensive range for modern agricultural technology

  • International technology company supplies solutions from a single source

  • Fully programmable instrumentation solution exhibited for the first time

  • Rubber tracks provide secure grip for heavy tractor units

  • Lower consumption and pollutant emission with exhaust gas treatment systems that are at the same time lighter, smaller and simpler

Key technologies, innovative product solutions and full service – Continental is the strong partner for agriculture. The technology company supplies modern components and systems for high-tech installations and agricultural machines from one source. The range of products extends from comprehensive instrumentation and camera solutions, through sensors and conveyor belt technology, and goes on to exhaust gas treatment. The focus is on efficiency, environmental friendliness and conservation of resources. At the Agritechnica trade fair from November 10 to 14 in Hanover, Continental will exhibit its comprehensive portfolio for the fields of efficiency, environment and connected solutions in Hall 16, Stand G05. The highlights include a fully programmable 12.1-inch display for more efficient working, high-performance rubber tracks, along with compact, economical system solutions for low emissions.

Networked vehicles relieve the driver

With the new, fully programmable terminal from Continental, which will be presented at Agritechnica for the first time, farmers can monitor and closely control all the functions of their vehicle, as well as the working machines in tow. The 12.1-inch touchscreen also displays additional information such as geographical or camera data, and allows operation of air conditioning and available media. The terminal therefore optimizes the working day, from maneuvering through to precision farming. It is easy to use, can be adapted to the customer's individual needs, and can be connected to the ISOBUS system. Another innovative instrument cluster from the same product family includes a 12.3-inch color TFT screen, and an outstanding

2-D graphical and video display. Both displays are part of the movement toward the networked vehicle, relieving the driver through the clearly presented information.

The Continental on-board telematics unit is a highlight in the connected solutions sector. Connected to the CAN bus of the agricultural machine, it is the central interface through which data are transmitted from and to the vehicle, so enabling a wide range of data-based applications, even as the harvest is collected. It therefore helps farmers to save time and organize their work more efficiently. Continental's innovation also helps with agricultural machinery leasing, by storing data about the duration and place of use for billing purposes.

High-tech solutions from rubber and plastic

From sowing, through harvest and on to transport and storage: the comprehensive range of conveyor belt technology from Continental makes work easier throughout the whole agricultural process chain. Rubber tracks, which have been added to the product range since acquiring Veyance Technologies in January 2015, will be among the items displayed at Agritechnica. They offer a secure grip on soft yielding ground to heavy tractor units or combine harvesters, including those with drive powers above 500 hp. Banded V-belts with high breaking load and wide V-belts for variomatic and variator drives are used to transmit high powers under heavy load.

Tractor and combine harvester components can safely be lifted, driven and controlled with the new high-pressure hydraulic hose. The hose is extremely resistant to abrasion, flexible, and suitable for tight installation situations. An electrically conductive fuel hose protects the vehicle against self-ignition from flying sparks by preventing buildup of static charge. A pneumatic spring for the seat will also be seen, improving the ergonomics for the driver.

Compact and economical system solutions for low emissions

How is it possible to reduce the output of pollutants from agricultural machines while lowering fuel consumption at the same time? Continental's exhibition stand will include a presentation of series solutions for EU IIIB / US Tier 4 and for EU IV, in force for the off-highway and agricultural sectors since 2013. Space-saving solutions with close-coupled diesel oxidation catalysts, high-performance metal carriers, integrated reductant injection and optimized vaporization are all in demand – particularly for smaller diesel aggregates.

On top of this, there is a preview of the technologies for the next emission stage, EU V: oxidation catalysts and reductant injection with integrated vaporization and hydrolysis modules, along with SCR-coated particle filters, will help to bring a lasting reduction in nitrogen oxide. The third-generation SCR system, developed by Continental and integrated into the tank, ensures that the number of components is reduced, and so fulfills the need to make exhaust gas treatment systems less complex. The development engineers are working on catalyst and system optimization with thermal management for the near future.
