All boxes ticked: New Big Pack 870 HDP Multibale

Presenting Big Pack 870 HDP, Krone launches a big baler that ticks all boxes. Big Pack 870 HDP HighSpeed closes the gap between the established small high-density balers and today’s conventional big balers, allowing farmers to produce big bales in the field and split them into up to nine small packs back at the farm. The bale chamber is 80 cm wide and 70 cm high, and there are five double knotters instead of the usual four. In MultiBale mode, two knotters knot the small packs and three others tie the big bale, which can be between 1 and 2.7 m in length. The advantages are obvious: only a few big bales need to be collected in the field, and back at the farm the small packs are easy to separate manually by simply snipping through three threads.

However, if very high densities are required, the baling pressure can be increased up to the familiar HDP level via the control box. This enables the Big Pack 870 HDP to achieve densities of up to 25% more than standard balers – a decisive factor in straw haulage or when bales have to be transported over long distances. The five double knotters ensure the bales are held together securely. Big Pack 870 comes with the Active Pick-up as standard, which adds a powered feed roller to the camless EasyFlow pick-up. Working width is either 195 cm or 235 cm (DIN 11220). It is with short, brittle material and silage that the Active Pick-up really comes into its own, delivering consistently higher throughputs. Another piece of standard kit is the useful Comfort electronic system; besides a large number of functions that can be controlled via the terminal, the system features upper thread control. As another plus, the X-Cut cutting system is lowered hydraulically from the cab based terminal. Access to the knives is also very easy. Just pull out a drawer from either side of the machine.

In addition to the standard features, Krone also offers a range of useful optional extras for Big Pack 870 HDP HighSpeed, such as moisture sensors on either side of the bale chamber which measure the moisture content of the bales and calculate averages which the operator can read off on the terminal. Another optional extra is the weighing system integrated into the bale chute, which measures the bale weight with the help of four weighing cells. Field trials have shown that the accuracy of this system is +/- 2 percent.

As another speciality, Big Pack 870 HDP (XC) Multibale offers the option of reducing the bale chamber width by 3cm. This optional feature is particularly appreciated in markets where bales are shipped in 40ft HighCube sea containers, which can be exploited to full capacity by bales of reduced widths.
