Ammann will present its ServiceLink telematics system for the complete range of compactors and pavers for the first time at bauma 2019 in Munich. The Swiss manufacturer launched the intelligent system for selected machines last year. It gives construction companies comprehensive control of machine data for their entire fleet. This method of self-monitoring makes it easy to avoid expensive machine downtime.

Ammann ServiceLink is a simple and efficient method of fleet management for construction machines provided by Ammann and other manufacturers. ServiceLink makes it possible to comprehensively monitor the machine data of every compactor and paver in the fleet, including information on service schedules, machine condition and machine use. ServiceLink covers every machine that utilises hydraulic and electronic controls. The system evaluates the parameters and makes the data available to the user in an intuitive format. It will, for instance, send a timely email to inform the machine owner of a pending inspection. This enables efficient service scheduling and reduces machine wear and tear.

In the future, the necessary wiring for ServiceLink will be standard on every Ammann machine. It is also possible to upgrade existing Ammann machines and those provided by other manufacturers. An experienced technician needs just 10 minutes to upgrade a machine, according to Heiko Gräber, Head of After Sales and Services at Ammann.

Ammann's factory-installed telematics are not limited to ServiceLink, but also are compatible with third-party systems.

Centralised Data Retrieval

ServiceLink data can be retrieved online via a web interface on the office computer or on a mobile device using the Ammann ServiceLink App. "Ammann paid attention to maximum user friendliness during the development of the system,” assures Gräber. “The information is displayed in graph form and is therefore intuitively comprehensible."

En Route to BIM

"The future of construction companies is BIM," says Gräber. He considers the development of ServiceLink an important milestone along the way.

The purpose of Building Information Modelling is to comprehensively monitor the overall development status of a construction site. How far has compaction progressed, what are the next steps based on these insights, where are machines located and what is their availability?

This is precisely where Ammann ServiceLink comes into play. Collecting machine information and combining data from various sources would enable a construction company to control complex building projects without interruption. Ammann ServiceLink ensures service and maintenance work does not come as an unwelcome surprise. This could save hours, if not days, of working time – which in turn would mean a huge reduction in costs. There is still a long way to go – but the numerous discussions show that this is the direction the industry is headed. Heiko Gräber is nonetheless confident: "We will be ready when the time comes."
