Balmers GM opens new West Yorkshire premises

John Deere turf machinery dealer Balmers GM Ltd has opened its new, second outlet on the Monckton Road Industrial Estate in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Located just off junction 39 on the M1, the new depot is perfectly placed to serve customers throughout the West and South Yorkshire area.

More than 100 guests including customers and suppliers attended the opening in February, with the official welcome made by John Deere Limited turf division manager Chris Meacock.

The Burnley-based dealership announced the expansion of its sales area from Lancashire into Yorkshire last summer. Established in 1979, Balmers Garden Machinery was originally appointed as a John Deere groundscare equipment dealer in 1992. The family-run business subsequently relocated to its new, state of the art premises at Dunnockshaw, Lancashire in October 2014.

The company currently employs 50 people across both the Wakefield and Burnley depots, offering new and used equipment sales, service, parts and commercial hire to a wide range of customers. These include local authorities, golf clubs, contractors, the leisure industry, equestrian centres and homeowners.

In addition to John Deere’s full line of professional and domestic turf equipment, Balmers GM specialises in sales, spares, servicing and repair of machinery from the likes of Stihl, Etesia, Scag, GreenMech Chippers, GreenTek, Roberine and Gambetti, who were all represented at the opening of the new outlet last month.

“Our new premises at Wakefield are ideally located just off the M1, so we are easily accessible and well placed to serve both our commercial and homeowner customers,” says depot manager Colin Patten. “We are now fully staffed in all departments, with a comprehensive stock of fast-moving parts and demonstration machines available on request.”

In addition to Colin, the Wakefield depot employs dedicated, fully trained service technicians, parts assistants and administration staff. The sales area is divided into two, with newly appointed Chris Johnson covering the South Yorkshire region and Adrian Holroyde covering West Yorkshire.

Adrian has been involved with the John Deere brand for over 10 years, having been previously employed as a head greenkeeper, so he is well placed to offer customers sound advice and guidance on the right choice of equipment. Chris brings with him a wealth of sales experience from the landscaping and amenity sector, and is keen to build on both Balmers’ and John Deere’s reputation throughout the South Yorkshire area.
