BOMAG at INTERMAT 2018

Construction equipment: the digital experience!

At INTERMAT 2018 in Paris, BOMAG, part of the FAYAT Group, will have on display its entire portfolio of compaction equipment for soils, asphalt, and refuse, plus its range of stabilizers/recyclers, planers, and pavers. BOMAG is dedicating an entire area of its stand to the topic of digitisation: in Digital Corner, visitors can use virtual and augmented reality to find out more about Bomag’s pioneering digital solutions, from the new BOMAG 360° technology for the compaction of asphalt through to the smart Digital Field Service for construction machinery. On the 2,000 square metre display area in hall 5A, stand C151, visitors will see the latest innovations, such as the RS 500 stabilizer/recycler with side-shifting milling rotor, and the tandem roller model with new Tango4 exciter system, offering oscillation plus split drum for the first time.

In April, the world of construction will meet in Paris, at the Parc des Expositions. As a subsidiary of the French Fayat Group, BOMAG will present cutting edge technologies: Today, as leader in compaction technology, BOMAG offers many types and sizes of machines which are in use worldwide for road and pavement construction. This is due to the company’s power of innovation which has produced many proven technologies for diverse markets and requirements, such as the BOMAG Economizer which monitors compaction progress. In the Digital Corner, BOMAG will demonstrate the technologies which are integrated into the famous yellow and black machines, ranging from light equipment to the heavy-duty asphalt paver model with 10 m paving width, and will show how digitisation is shaping the evolution of smart Construction Machine 4. BOMAG looks forward to discussing this technology with customers, visitors and machine operators from all over the world at INTERMAT.

New models at INTERMAT

The feature-highlight of the new RS 500 stabilizer/recycler on show at INTERMAT is the milling rotor which can be moved beyond the wheel edge. This allows the machine to operate up to the outermost edge of a road carriageway and still remain safe to manoeuvre.

The gradeability, off-road performance and twin-amplitude compaction power is outstanding: the new generation, compact BW 124-5 single drum roller featuring smooth or padfoot drum features safe 4-post Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS/FOPS), travel lever operation for the optional dozer blade, and engine unit complying with exhaust classification IV/Tier 4. This single drum roller is also available with Economizer.

As part of the 360° technology concept, BOMAG will present new Tango4 technology for tandem rollers with pivot steering. For the first time, oscillation has been successfully combined with a split drum. Tango4 produces sensitive compaction where needed and is particularly impressive on bends due to lower shearing forces; providing the basis for high quality surface compaction, e.g. on roundabouts.

Immerse yourself in the digital world of road construction

The BOMAG range is leading the way with digital high-tech. The company will show its technologies and innovations in reality and virtually at the Digital Corner on the stand. In a virtual reality simulation, visitors will find out exactly how the Asphalt Manager, Vibration and TanGO (tangential oscillation) compaction technologies work and where their strengths lie. Now users can choose from three exciter systems on the latest generation of asphalt rollers. This 360° technology concept makes compaction flexible and universally applicable.

With technologies for asphalt construction and earthworks, at the Digital Corner visitors will see BOMAG’s ground-breaking solutions in action. Why is Magmalife, the screed heating system for asphalt pavers, as much as 25 percent faster than standard heating systems? How does Variocontrol automatically control the transfer of optimal power on single drum rollers, and prevent overcompaction? How does the proven BOMAG Economizer ensure perfect results on soil and asphalt with vibratory plates, trench compactors, single drum rollers or asphalt rollers? BOMAG supplies the answer to these questions at Digital Corner with fascinating virtual insights into digital construction machinery – the machines will of course be on show in reality on the stand.

 Service 4.0 in augmented reality

There is great potential with the digitisation and networking of construction plant to make processes more efficient and transparent in future. BOMAG has been a pioneer in this area; one example being networking tandem rollers with the display and documentation of compaction, temperature and number of passes generated by GPS measuring technology. This system has been successfully been used for five years. The servicing of construction machinery can also greatly benefit from digitisation. So BOMAG will be launching its new Digital Field Service at the Digital Corner for the first time. Using augmented reality glasses visitors to the stand will experience the way in which smart service concepts simplify servicing, maintenance and repair of construction plant. The focus here is not digitisation for its own sake, rather networking information from highly automated machines being put to practical use.

The digital service concept also includes the BOMAG service app for iOS or Android. With technical data, operating and maintenance instructions, spare parts lists and videos with quick guides, the user has everything to hand – including addresses of BOMAG dealers nearby. At the Digital Corner, visitors can find out more about the app and its benefits.
