Presenting CECE’s position on the current legislative process towards the new Machinery Regulation, Riccardo Viaggi spoke at an event hosted by CECE’s member ANMOPYC on 18th November.

During a roundtable discussion involving the Spanish Ministry of Industry, CECE called on legislators to use a sensible approach, complementing the workers’ safety goal with the fundamental support to manufacturing competitiveness and innovation.  This translates into the need for a balanced approach to CE Marking, avoiding unnecessary burdens from obligatory third-party certification, defining clear rules on the Commission’s power to draft standards and a targeted definition of artificial intelligence.

Industry stakeholders, standardisers and notified bodies were among the audience. The Spanish Ministry of Industry was represented in the debate by the competent official in charge of this regulation within the Council working groups. She thanked industry for getting involved in the debate and confirmed the long term perspectives of the upcoming political negotiation to reach an agreement between the EU legislators.
