Set up with the aim to ensure that CECE’s interests are well represented and taken into account in the development of digital industry policies at the EU level, the CECE DTF has certainly accomplished its mission in 2022.

Thanks to its unique composition, the CECE DTF workgroup follows the market developments around telematics and connectivity, digital technologies and IoT to assess the impact of the EU data policies on the digital transformation of construction equipment. Through the DTF, members from national associations, OEMs, telematics providers & innovation centres in CECE scope, regularly contribute and exchange on CECE activities to increase the level of digitalisation of our industry.

Over the last year, the EU agenda was significantly marked by a strong focus on data and digital policies. On the occasion of the first meeting of the year, special attention was dedicated to the regulatory aspects of the main legislative files under discussion by policy makers. The discussion particularly focused on the key priority files for CECE advocacy, such as new horizontal legislation on data use and sharing (‘Data Act’) as well as new horizontal rules for cybersecurity of connected digital products (‘Cyber Resilience Act’) which marked the EU scene.

Such legislative developments constituted a timely moment for the experts of the DTF, which played a crucial part in leading CECE work on data policies and digitalisation of construction jobsite. Thanks to their recommendations on data definitions, different types of data connection, protection of trade secrets’ data, the cooperation with the CECE Project Team on Data policy (PT Data) was fruitful and led to the development of the recent CECE positions on data files.

During the first CECE DTF meeting of the year, members agreed that the DTF will continue working on the digital transformation of the industry, which goes hand in hand with sustainability goals. The group is indeed committed to foster sustainability through the digital transformation of construction machinery equipment as the role played by digital technologies is central to reduce carbon emissions in construction.
