CECE requests for postponement of the SCIP implementation deadline

On 5th May, CECE, together with EGMF, FEM, CEMA, Europgen, EUnited and Euromot has addressed to Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans its concerns regarding the implementation deadline of the SCIP database.

The implementation deadline of the Substances of Concern In articles, as such or in complex objects (Products) – SCIP defined within the Waste Framework Directive, is set for 5th January 2021.

The database requirements were already extremely challenging for the sector and its development imposes a tight timeline: the database is in its testing phase and a final version is not expected before October 2020.

In the context of the Covid-19 crisis, where companies are facing important disruptions on the supply chain and activities have slowed down, if not completely shut down, it is extremely difficult to collect the relevant information from suppliers. Carrying out the test of the system and upload the requested information introduces difficulties as well.
