How flexible collection and guiding systems help reduce contamination, improve safety and support more efficient maintenance routines
Maintenance work on construction machinery is often carried out under demanding real world conditions. Dust, weather exposure, vibration and limited service windows are part of daily operations on construction sites, in quarries and in municipal fleets. At the same time, expectations regarding environmental protection, workplace safety and clean service processes continue to increase. In this environment, controlled liquid handling is becoming an increasingly important part of professional machine service.
Even minor leaks or poorly controlled maintenance steps can lead to contaminated ground, additional cleaning work and avoidable downtime. In many cases, the challenge is not technical know how, but the lack of a practical method for collecting and directing liquids reliably under real operating conditions.
This is where flexible maintenance systems can make a measurable difference. In construction machinery applications, DERBLAUE® systems are used to guide and collect liquids before they reach the ground, painted surfaces or sensitive machine components. Typical solutions include the DERBLAUE® Service Set with Professional Tub, Slide and Single Splash Guard, as well as the Flexible Funnel and Flexible Protection Tubs.

One of the most common service tasks is filter replacement. Whether changing a hydraulic return filter, an engine oil filter or a fuel filter, residual liquid will usually escape once the component is loosened, often in an unfavourable direction. Filters are frequently positioned close to the unit, behind covers or above sensitive parts. In these situations, controlled liquid guidance becomes critical.
The Flexible Funnel is designed specifically for this type of application. Positioned directly beneath the filter, it can be shaped and aligned so that the first drop is captured immediately and directed away before fluid spreads across edges, hoses or housings. When fitted with a sealing cap on the thread, the funnel can temporarily retain liquid directly at the source or channel it away in a controlled manner through a hose. This helps reduce contamination during filter changes and lowers the time required for cleaning and rework.
The same principle also supports safer refuelling. Under time pressure or in poor weather conditions, fuel can easily pass the filler neck and run onto steps, body panels or the ground. The Flexible Funnel extends the filling area and stabilises the process. Integrated magnets allow it to be fixed to metallic surfaces, helping to keep the machine clean while reducing slip risk and protecting the surrounding area.

For awkward and hard to access maintenance points, the Slide is used to guide liquids in a controlled way, including around corners or out of areas where no collection container can be placed directly underneath. This is particularly useful where drip points are concealed by frames, mudguards or covers.
The Professional Tub performs the actual collection of liquids. Thanks to integrated bendable metal elements, it can be adapted to confined machine areas and positioned where rigid containers are not suitable. Liquids can therefore be collected directly at the source in a controlled and clean manner.
Additional protection is provided by the Flexible Protection Tub, which serves both as a work surface and as floor protection. It helps protect workshop floors, paving and other sensitive surfaces. Its fold up edges provide additional spill protection where residual drips occur or components need to be placed down temporarily during service.
The operational benefits are clear. Less contamination means less preparation time, less rework, improved safety and reduced downtime. At the same time, clean liquid collection supports more sustainable maintenance practices. Avoiding contamination helps protect soil and water, while collected fluids can be disposed of properly without extensive use of absorbents or additional cleaning measures.
In this way, environmental responsibility becomes part of an efficient and professional service routine on construction machinery.

“I use DERBLAUE® every day. For me, it is no longer a question, it is simply standard. I use it for changing hoses and filters, for draining oil, basically all the time. And with the Flexible Protection Tub, I automatically protect the environment as well.” says Mario Müller, MH Baumaschinen
